Default Repairing 88 door skin

Anyone have a good solution for the top of the door panel skin peeling away? I have some 3M 90 spray adhesive, but I'm not sure how to get the top edge relaxed enough to let it bend.

Soften with a heat gun? Use a stapler?

Here is the driver side of the 35th Anniversary I'm resurrecting.

Driver Side, peeling door skin

Wow, that is a lot of "warpage". Is there anything behind that "skin" or is that the entire outer shell of the door?

There is no fixing that. You would be better off replacing the door, which in the long run would probably be cheaper than replacing just the door skin.

88 door skin bought new in 2003 and because the white aged and yellowed after 15 years, I repainted it recently and added new carpet.

Nice job! Mine is a long ways from looking that good. I'm working on getting some studs mounted into the top cap as all but one of the studs are broken off. Someone also used something resembling gorilla glue to attach the carpet, with some nice blue showing on the door panel.

What did you use for painting? Looking for anything I can to pretty up this Anniversary Edition!

Oops, my bad. Didn't realize that was the inside...

If you clamp a straight, stiff rail to it will it straighten and lay smoothly? If so there are some epoxy adhesives that should hold it nicely.

I have a section of aluminum channel I'm thinking of using. Clamp it down after spraying with adhesive. Aluminum stock is for the electric can I plan on putting on the 78 when I swap it from TBI to TPI.

I'm wondering if hitting with some heat might relax some of the curl before attempting to glue? the adhesive would be fighting that bend.

The door skin is the fiberglass layer on the outside of the door. A door panel is the vinyl covered object on the inside of the door.

Yep! Thanks for the correction. Something I even knew and still managed to use the wrong terminology. Middle age brain fart.

Now, if I can figure out how to change the post title...

Reach out to a moderator and a 'title correction' won't be an issue. I avoided responding and maybe creating an issue when it was first posted.
