How much is a 1990 ZR1 really worth out in the real world? I don't even think autotrader numbers are the best reference as locally you probably can find better deals right? I have the impression autotrader is also full of these testing the waters prices.

I never considered this as a "pizzing contest", I was simply trying to show or help prove the '95 White Corvette was actually a real ZR-1. That's why I posted the information about the eBay listing. "J" indicated LT-5, which is the engine code for a ZR-1. The 5800439 is the sequence for a ZR-1. There are many other signs to have proven this was in fact a real ZR-1 and they have been mentioned before. That rear bumper "Conversion" is simply the rear of a standard C4. It is meant for someone wanting to give a '84-'90 Corvette the look of a ZR-1.
When the ZR-1 debuted in 1990 it had the convex rear bumper and in '91 even the standard Corvette received the convex rear end. The only way to tell a ZR-1 at that point was that it is three inches wider in the rear end. That bumper cover in the add would not fit on a real ZR-1. The comments about the "Corvette" script are true. "Corvette" is embossed on a standard C4 in the bumper cover, but on a ZR-1, the script is added onto the cover.
A great read about the Corvette ZR-1 is covered in a book entitled "The Heart of the Beast", by Anthony Young. It talks about the 1990-1995 Corvette ZR-1. It also mentions the Pre-production cars that were constructed for testing. So if that gentleman you met really has an "1989" ZR-1 it would be nice to see pictures. Pre-production cars are very rare, because most were destroyed or kept by GM. Prior to 1990 the car was known as "The King of the Hill", because they had not given it the designator of ZR-1 until in came out in 1990.

.Looking at the 90 model year only
One with higher miles, or needing some paint & body--- $9-13k
Medium miles, good running, stock or light mods, LT-5 issues addressed $13-16k
Low miles, all LT5 issues addressed, stock or light mods, needs very little $16-19k

Ok thanks. So basically not much difference from Autotrader. I thought Autotrader prices were inflated a bit. I thought locally one could sure get better deals. But it seems I was wrong then. For example there is one right now on Autotrader with less than 50K on the clock, manual transmission, one owner for $15K. It looks to be in good condition too. Seller lists no problems. The next one just to $19k with around 90K on the clock, which seems to me a bit expensive. Maybe locally cars are more in line with the 50K miles one for $15K. I have the impression people always inflate price when it's selling on a national scale.

If youre serious about finding a ZR-1, there are plenty and finding pretty close to the exact car you want shouldnt be too terribly hard....Above all, have a fun time searching for it...

I am confused.
The pics on ebay show a zr1. Can we agree on that?
You can't or not easily put an LT5 in a regular c4. I believe firewall is a little different, Zr1 has different rockers and yes a wider rear which is the reason the rockers are different.
Are you saying the pics are being used as a fake ad to scam people and there is no car?
Do you think the car is being misrepresented? on purpose?
You are basing your opinion so far based on photos of taillight photos which I am no expert, but I believe it is hard to base scale off of photos especially taken at completely different angels and stuff.
Please explain.
