Until not long ago, I had no idea these intakes were such a restriction on power. OTOH, they have a lot of meat to port them out, so it becomes an interesting option. Just one example of great info to be found on this forum!

WhyTF doesn't ^this^ work anymore??
Yeah, there's new "functionality" recently added to this site. It seems like some old-school HTML tags are no longer working, and have been replaced by toolbar items. It took me a while to figure this out when trying to create links out of text. I guess this is progress...or something.

It seems to me that for the money you're going to put into it you
could buy yourself one in a little better shape and still do some work on it.
I really just wanted a project so I could use it as an excuse for some father, son and brother bonding time.

Is there a thread with numbers for before and after the port? Also anybody know if this stood up to the test of time?

Ported,
That father/son bonding may cost you a bundle of money
but in the long run it may buy you a relationship with your
son that money can't buy! Good thinking onyour part...

Okay so I'm finally going to have a slightly warm weekend to actually to fire this vette up!!! I have already bought a new air filter, sending unit, and battery. I am going to go buy some spark plugs this weekend and a new fuel pump. I'm looking to get some feedback on which pump to buy.... Right now I'am looking at just using an 85 fuel pump (18 gph@ 51 psi) from my local auto parts store, https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...uel+pump&pos=1.

However it is saying that the 84 pump is 23 gph @ 12 psi...
https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...uel+pump&pos=0

My two questions are...
1) With lower flows you get a higher pressure and vise versa, so why is the 84 fuel pump not capable of outperforming the 85?
2) Also does anyone have a better recommendation/input/warnings for an upgraded fuel pump and will this be a direct fit to the 84 sending unit?

1) As you increase pressure, flow decreases since the "HP" of the pump is fixed. The 84 flows more at 12 PSI than the '85 flows at 51 PSI...but the '84 definitely doesn't flow more at 51 PSI...it would probably flow 0 GPH if it could even reach 51 lbs...which it can't -even dead headed.
2) I bought a Walbro 255 lph pump for my CFI car and it worked great, allowed room for future growth (which I used, somewhat) and it wasn't too expensive. If you don't have future plans, buy the cheapest GM application, "MPFI" pump you can get. If you have "big plans"...get a pump now, that will support those plans later.
