Did this come as an option on a 1988 convertible? Think I will remove it and fill the holes/paint.
A luggage rack was an option on C4 convertibles from 1989 thru 1993. It was listed as RPO V56 and cos about $150.
As mentioned, you can sell the rack by placing a For Sale ad in the C4 Parts For Sale section. You must include an asking price in the ad.
The rack isn't terrible looking and they are really freakin useful on the C4 convertible. My Dad and I used to go golfing and would bungee the bags to the rack all the time. Leave a couple bungee cords in the car and you have a far more usable vehicle

Rack is kind of a neat period thing, kind of like bumper guards on an old Camaro or Impala

If I had a convertible with this on, I would leave it. I think it looks good. And yes they even used to have a fiberglass trunk that you could get and paint body color.
the luggage rack is a GOOD THING ! I had 90 vert with the auxiliary hard top. with the hard top on and vert top down storage was nill (2 box of Kleenex nill). with the rack I could mount 2 bags in the back . that is a good thing indeed.
