Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, parts of Texas fall into "the southern folk area". I know it sometimes gets cold in Texas. Last year my daughter called us saying it was snowing.
However, when you get to 8 below, THEN you will have an idea. If there is no snow on the ground (or ice) I will walk out on the sidewalk barefoot at 29. We still grill outside in all temps.
HOWEVER it is a matter of perspective. Since I am acclimated to our climate, your climate would kill me. It would take a year to get acclimated to your summers, if I ever did. We are going to look towards the western side of N. Carolina towards the mountains where it is a little more like here.
During your summers, I would walk to the end of the driveway and come back in to change clothes and wring the ones I just wore out.

We had 8 degrees here on Sunday night and most of Monday with a -20 windchill. Sunday morning I grilled a steak in shorts and a tshirt because it was 60. Sustained single digits with 35 mph winds is cold no matter how you cut it but I don't consider it freezing cold until you can spit and its frozen before it hits the ground. I've also worked down in Florida when it was 110 and that really didn't bother me much. Jersey gets some weird temp swings man but I think the car is away for the winter now. Everything on the road is white.

Melting Slicks
We are having winter here today. Woke up with temps around 24F. It started yesterday, the schools closed due to a threat of snow. I think Spring is starting Friday. Forecast for 60's to Mid 70's next week.
To be fair to the schools, the forecast was for rain mixing with snow in the morning, with temperatures below freezing at lunch. Down here it makes no sense to invest in sanders or plows. If the rain started freezing with kids at school the bus rides home would quickly become dangerous.
And I'm not someone who has never dealt with snow. I spent 12 years working on the flightline (mostly night shift) in Rome New York.

Ok, we just had blizzard conditions here for ~15 minutes, I could not see my neighbors house through the snow.

I do not drive this car as much as I should, but last night I pulled the cover off after a month or so and she started right up. As I cruised up to work (60 mi round trip) I couldn't help but smile. Yeah, she has her flaws, but it is easy to forget them when there is an open road with very little traffic.
Yes, I know the sign if for a C5, but it was a gift from my wife.

I'm down in north Texas. Our winters are usually very mild, but I really want to drive my vette in the snow. I've never done it. Hopefully we get some snow this season so I can have some fun.
You are probably tired of the snow in the winter up there, but down here I think we find it entertaining, especially watching everyone who doesn't know how to drive in it.
