modding an L98 is like having your tonsels removed...
installing an LS1 in a C4 is like having your tonsels removed..... rectally.
The LS1 is nothing like the old 350... the bolts don't match... you would have to source a tranny... ouch... the mounts aren't the same... computer issues.
There is a guy here from TX I think his screen name is 84 LS-1 or something, he supposely has a LS-1 stuffed in an 84. I haven't seen pictures or nothing but he is around here.
I have seen 3rd gen camaros with LS-1s stuffed in them, so you know it can be done.
The LS1 is a great engine, but let's really get down to what we all really want: An LS6 in a C4. :D
The swap can be done. Are we talking Corvette or F-body LS1? The best reason, really, is weight. Aluminum block vs. iron block... hmmm, I'll take the aluminum. Very lightweight, powerful, efficient, reliable engine. Be sure to attach it to a modern 6-speed tranny as well, probably one from a C5. Not sure if the stock C4 tranny can be attached to the LS1. I say go for it, and if you're going to do it, do it right. Get the LS6. :yesnod:
EDIT: Don't know how much an LS1 is vs. an LS6. Just speculating in my post here.
Yeah, you're probably correct. It was the LS1 engine out of a C5. Just thought it might be a unique swap. . Moments of lapsed judgement I guess (or too much coffee, not enough sleep, all of the above  ).
Guess I'll just mod the L98..............................OR maybe it's time for a stroker
Thanks for all the responses
 :seeya :flag
TracerX in Houston dropped an LS1 into an 84. I believe he used one out of a Camaro due to oil pan differences. You can probably find him on the LS1 forum. He has an LS1 Firebird too.
dont get an ls1. Aluminum is not reliable... GM is having problems with the block strength and cp strength even with 6 bolt caps. Lotta flexx. they even changed the bolts in 97s, then 98s, then 01s on the main caps due to flex. Lotta oil eating issues... so much more i wont start on

Maybe that's why I decided to stay with my C-4 and not downgrade to a C-5.
