I had the Core/Hurst shifter installed I picked up from from Ebay. What a big difference in the shifters. Shorter throw and it feels a lot tighter. Great shifter.

The C4 sticks are at a Premium. Starting in 1980 the change over to automatics with the driving public was in full swing.

The 4+3 was not a great idea and can be very costly to repair.

Go with the latest year you can afford, they got better and better.

The early digital dash tends to fail, costly to repair.

When I rebuilt my 85 - 10 years ago I went with a Richmond 6 speed and eliminated the 4+3 and TPI. I went with a carb and HELI dissy.

It was my daily driver for a few years. The car did very well after the rebuild.

By the end of the C4 run the ride and reliability were much better. I liked the 85 due to the price I paid and the ease of eliminating the computer controls on the motor. If I had an issue 150 miles from home I could go to Auto Zone and replace anything to get home.

I would've loved to have a 6SPD, but the wife gets scared and refuses to drive it. so I went with an automatic which she refuses to drive as well apparently its too low

I may have to trade her in for a newer model (the wife)

I was shocked at how hard it was to find a 6sp car when we were looking earlier this year. Both my wife and I prefer a manual and in 25 years of driving, we have never been without one. Needless to say, it was somewhat odd to be sports car shopping and having so much trouble finding a 6sp.

Check out the brand new "sports cars" and see how many you can get with a stick? You may be surprised at the answer....

BMW is in the process of phasing them out.

Don't mean to gloat but my '94 Z07 has a 6 speed ZF transmission

When I initially got into C4s I wanted an automatic but when the one I bought came up it was too hard to pass up for the price I paid and now, I couldn't imagine owning this car with an automatic trans....

I call the 6speed in my 85, 4 speed in my 67 and the 5 speed in my 71 anti theft devices.

There was an article about a Carjacking at a traffic light in NY City - the jacker pulled the woman out of her Camaro and jumped in - could not figure out how to move the car as she ran away... very funny - except for the jacking part and damaged transmission.

I can absolutely see that. I can't count the number of times I've tried to valet one of the cars and the kid taking my keys had to go get someone else...typically older, to park the car because he couldn't drive a manual. I was a valet all through college, so it makes me laugh.

That’s why I gave up in my search for an affordable zf6 car and focused on color. Figure I could settle for an auto if I at least got my color. Finally found an admiral blue with black instead of the tan interior with 100k for $6k and jumped on it. Passed inspection only needing a turn signal bulb so I’d say it was a fair deal.

I specifically wanted a 4+3 transmission in my 85. I searched around until I found a one owner car that was maintained as it was supposed to be. Very happy with it now owning it over 10 years. Never had any problems with it. Lots of low end power and totally capable of speeds of 150 mph (ask me how I know ) in overdrive, or 5th gear as we 4+3 owners call them. Super T10 4 speed coupled with a Dana 44 and 3:07 gears. Very nice set up IMO. Automatic transmission Corvettes just don't do anything for me.

I'd add a little to that. If you have big feet, you may want to drive shoeless or catch the pedals on occasion. Also some type shoes make it worse than others. I'm tall with big feet.
As far as tall, that may apply with the coupe but unless my rough measurements are wrong the convertible has more internal height room with the top up and definitely more with the top down. The big gripe I have is you have to bend over alittle at stoplights at times if they're overhead so you can see them.

My 2 cents.

Sold my 93 ruby auto, been looking for a clean zf6. But I have driven a C7 with the A8 trans. For an auto, it's pretty dam good. But of course, stick is still prefered for me.

Ditto on tall being a pain to see and use a manual. I hear the C7 is a little cramped also what gives?
There are much smaller cars out there that give plenty of legroom...bummer.

Default my C4

It took me a couple of years to find my 91, C4,vert, ruby red with all black interior and top, sport seats, adjustable suspension, it is a rocket ship, with seat belts.....I bought in 18 years ago, and even then the manual verts were always more than the aout's , having driven both I will never own an automatic c4......

My '95 vert is a 6spd aqua fully loaded with sport seats and FX3 and I almost passed on it because it was a manual shift. Even though I wanted a Corvette to have a car that was a " sports car " I almost passed on mine because I figured it would be a pain in the a_s to drive in traffic-well it kind of is but sports cars are no fun driving in traffic anyways.

Now that I have driven mine with the manual I cannot imagine not having the manual to shift through the gears in. Sure do not see many late C4 verts with the manual.

I loved the Admiral Blue used in the GS but couldn't afford one...learned it was used in '94 and '95 as well, but low production numbers. Every one I found, and they were few and far between, was an automatic. I finally gave up on finding a ZF car and was relating this story to the owner of a nice '94 AB auto that I was thinking of buying. He told me to hold out for a ZF car, then paused and said, hold on, maybe a buddy of mine would sell his car....

Long story short, I wasn't looking for a vert, but that's what his buddy had. Original owner, ZF, 41k miles, '95 AB with black top, garage kept since new. I still would prefer a coupe, but in an odd twist I ended up with a fairly rare car while looking for one somewhat easier to find. I paid a premium over the AB auto coupes, but not an unreasonable one.
