Looking at buying out of the states. Anybody on here able to run a vin?

If you are looking in Canada, they have carproof.ca
or are you looking for somebody to run a VIN through GM VIS?

Never understood shortening a title only to re-expand it. Vehicle Identification Number became VIN because that was too much to say. Then it had to be bastardized into VIN Number. What causes this? After remembering the V and the I, did we forget what the N stood for? Are three shortened words too many for the human brain to handle? Was V.I. Number taken? Should it have been VehIdNum instead? Or would that be too close to Vietnam?
