Questions about an 86 coupe
Hi all,
Came over from the C7 group for some info on an 86 that I'm looking at. Where would the sticker/plate that would show the paint code and other details be located? Also would a low number of units of a particular color add any value to the vehicle? Thanks
Rick

Rear compartment behind the drivers seat is where it is on both of my 85's. Low paint numbers could be a selling point but probably won't bring any more cash. My light blue metallic is the lowest produced in 1985, 1 of 1021. That's just something interesting I write on the car show form. If you've never driven a C4 they are a blast. I have 2. The 86's color codes are printed on the RPO label on the underside of the center console lid. I feel as though a low production color such as Copper Metallic would add value. There were two colors in 86 that were very low production, Copper Metallic and Medium Blue Metallic. I think only 6 Copper Metallics were built and something like 128 Medium Blue Metallic cars were built. So in light of that, I think it would add some value. My 86 is Medium Grey Metallic and 1600 something were built in that color, so I don't feel as though its an incredibly rare color and that not much extra value would be added because of the color.

on my 86 that info is under the console lid. Mine is gold and 770 units were painted that color that year. Its also the last year for that color.... Added value? I doubt it and dont care. be aware c-4s repaint aint cheap. I just had mine repainted, the right way, cost me 4.500 and that was having a friend do it that owns a body shop. C-4s are a blast to drive, low price, and plenty of power.

Hi all,
Thanks for the info. The car is not local to me but it appears to be copper metallic. Then again it might be a repaint. Only 4 out of about 35,000 were painted that color according to the black book. The car has very high mileage though.

If it were the original color, I think I would buy the car with the intentions of a restoration. Just given that so few were produced, it would be a shame to let one wither away. Being a C4 enthusiast, it just feels like the right thing to do.

The earlier cars will have it in the rear compartment behind the drivers seat. Convertibles and some later cars have it on the underside of the console lid.

The guy is asking $5000. and it's listed on the State College (PA) Craigslist. I'm passing so it's open to anyone. If anybody buys it let the rest of us know if its copper met.

Looks pretty good to me. Why did you decide against it, if you don't mind me asking.

I have a new one and thought about getting a beater for rainy days etc. The high miles and being over a hundred miles away were the main reasons. I also noticed the black wheels were from a newer model, but would have been an easy change out. There are numerous mid to late 80's near where I live so I can check them out.

Just found it. Appears to be an early build 86 and the color appears to be consistent throughout. There is a high chance this is a true Copper Metallic 86. I bet if you went there with cash in hand the seller would negotiate. I think it would still be a good buy if it were mechanically sound, given there were some wiggle room on the price.
