Default So remember that time Hot Rod Garage did a body swap?

I’ve had the weirdest (dumbest) idea in my head for a while now and it all started after watching an episode of Hot Rod garage where a Crown Vic body was lifted off the running chassis and a truck body was put on. It didn’t go together easy but they made it work.

So I’ve had this 1985 Vette forever and I’ve found a possible lead on a C4 race car body. An attempt at an offer was shot down previously but I might have another shot. You see where I’m going with this....so just wondering who has done some type of body swap, even if it’s non Vette? Just curious as I’m sure if all the safety gear is still there the car would still be road legal with a new body. That would be my primary concern is street legal. The Vette Kart guys still keep theirs on the road. Just thinking out loud: I guess worse ideas have been had.

Any more info on what exactly this c4 race car body you’re talking about is? Also keep in mind the C4 isn’t a body on frame car like the crown Vic you mentioned is, so it’s not like the body can all lift off in one unit. Sure, you can strip off individual body panels and take it down to the skeleton like with the Vette cart builds, but it’s different than just separating the body from the chassis like you mentioned.

C4 body shell is essentially glued on frame. It will be a chore to separate. I would expect alot of broken pieces. VFN makes a lightweight racing body.

A few guys here have those bodies, one has had them for sale before. I have also seen them used on racingjunk.com. I think "bats13" had one for sale or a friend of his maybe?

^That is true. BUT, I learned when I was taking my Kart apart, that if you heat the glued seams, they come apart quite nicely w/o parts breakage. I heated the metal frame of the car w/a propane torch, then when it was toasty, I gently pulled the body panel off.

I have a 1984 c4 that is literally disintegrating, its still fun to drive but I keep thinking I want to make a vintage 50's out of it
