Medium Charcoal Metallic Paint
Hi All,
I have a few chips in the paint of my '88. Unfortunately, though I love the color of the car, it has been impossible for me to find touch up paint. The color is Medium Charcoal Metallic, paint code is 9192.
Does anyone know where I can find some of this color touch up paint?
Thanks in advance.
Keith

Hi All,
Here is a pic of my car, it is a 1988. I can say in the pics it usually comes out as looking brown or even sometimes dark grey depending on the lighting outside.
I have reached out to Dupont this afternoon to see if they may carry this color, if not I'll end up going to my local paint shop and see if they can mix it up for me. I did talk to the people at automotivetouchup.com but they only carried paint code 9191 for a 1988 Corvette, which is the Medium Smoke Grey metallic, which is not the same color.

Medium Charcoal Metallic is a great color on a C4. Your Vette looks great

This is a very good point! I have done a lot of searching online and only saw one other Corvette in this color, and it was indicated as "Medium Charcoal Metallic" which translates to code 9192, which is what my RPO code indicates as the original factory color. So I am assuming that my car is still Medium Charcoal Metallic 9192, though I have never seen another Corvette this color in person to compare the color.

the 1988 dealer brochure lists the color as Charcoal Corvette (Met.) so not to get hung up on the dark/medium/smoke descriptions, I would get the WA9192 paint stick from automotive touch up and see for yourself if close enough. Wouldn't a local shop do the same, punch in WA9192 to get the pigment proportions and here ya go, or will they use a color scanner on your car?
automotivetouchup doesn't list quasar blue as a 1990 color (which is technically correct) but have it for 1991 so their charts are not perfect.
Nice color, paint looks custom to me and a nightmare to match, good luck.

Porsche charges about $5,000 for a custom color. But, it adds three months to the delivery time and only about 70 911s are ordered with a custom paint job each year. Also, like Ferrari and Lamborghini, Porsche does not allow paint schemes that are tacky or lacking in taste. So, that alone might be problematic for some Corvette owners.
Haven't the time to check Lambo, but I know a friend of mine had his Ferrari painted a custom color and had some of the leather and stitching on the inside of the car done to match. I forget what the interior work cost, but the exterior paint, which was not weird or esoteric, was $24,000. I believe the interior was about $15,000 to $18,000 more on top of that. Also, if the paint job is really unique, I’ve heard the sky is literally the limit, well above the $24,000 my friend paid for his paint.
All this having been said, opening up this type of custom paint operation in BG, would not be cheap, and the set up and and continuing costs of doing business would have to be spread amongst all Corvette owners. Corvette is all about economies of scale. Everything is done as cost effectively as is humanly possible. So, no, there won’t be a custom paint and/or interior shop brought on line at BG.
Also, each Porsche and Ferrari, especially Ferraris, develop significant revenue streams per car compared to each Corvette. GM is succeeding with the Corvette because they know their market and rigidly adhere to serving that market.
