Default Beware of Cops Baiting you

So I was on an errand in my Polo Green 94 Convertible...top up...windows down. Nice afternoon here in Central Florida. I had noticed in my rearview a Mustang GT...late model...kept staying with me in traffic. My BEL 65 had been occasionally been giving me the "On/Off" signal so I knew LE was lurking about on a street popular for occasional action. I stopped for a traffic light in the left lane...Mustang pulls up on the right. The driver is mid 30's...clean cut with a goatee and Ray Bans. "Nice 'vette" he says. "Thanks" I reply. I look over and barely notice his clip on "strobes" on the sun visor. Driver says..."You want to give it a go?" I replied.."Not today officer". He looked straight at me and asked..."How did you know"? I said "Two Things:...you've been on and off K Band for the past 5 miles and....you really should tuck those Clip On strobes a little bit higher and further back." He looked over with that "Gomer" look...thru the strobe clip into the passenger seat...turned right...and disappeared after a few "Chirp" shifts.

Beware....the "Bear is in the woods"

Is this a thing? I'm assuming it was the officer's personal car?

Sounds like you could claim "entrapment" in court.

I seriously doubt a cop in an unmarked tried to bait you into a street race

GREAT story! keep reporting these incidents and '"organizations" publicly..

We pay for these ding dongs and MANY of them are ding dongs. The old one bad one.... is a joke. This is training and tactics NOT a bad one here and there. I don't see firefighters / rescue making work for themselves like this... OH yeah! there is money involved, with a sprinkle of other character flaws..

Yeah, I'm shocked too...

Do you know any?

Are you one?

Ever been on youtube with this topic?

If not I suggest you start doing some research. I know some, I have met some, and I have heard some, AND they are not smart enough to keep their bad behavior private.

Even if it was not baiting to bust, it was to blow the c4's doors off. I don't doubt it t all. humans do these things.

The part that makes me know its BS is the idea they sat there having a conversation this whole time. Like both of the cars had their windows down, struck up a conversation, and started each other down enough to notice clip on lights at a red light? AMD then I'm supposed to believe that the cop was driving a stick too?

Sounds like some movie stuff to me. Not that cops don't have undercover unmarked cars, but come on.

I asked a friend who is retired LE about this from an entrapment angle. He said there have been some recent court rulings that allow LE to use "Takeaway" cars for "Monitoring" illegal street racing. They will place pursuit cars in strategic locations to chase down the offenders...sort of like the "Street Walker Hooker" and "John in the car" set up.They will "Goad" a potential perp into an "Exhibition of Speed" violation...then back down in defeat...letting the marked or unmarked Dodge Chargers in a "Wolf Pack" a few blocks down the street play mop up. Think about it...done correctly it can be very effective.

This guy did a **** poor job of pulling this off. If he had me on Radar he could have poped me for excessive speed...but he didn't. All it really takes is a full throttle start from a dead start to create "Exhibition of Speed" moving violation...you don't even have to exceed the posted limit to get that one. They are also using tag reader technology for "probable cause" stops. If you have any warrants outstanding...any traffic stop is going to make it easier to introduce you to the "Correctional Process". Here in Central Florida there have been a recent increase in accidents from street racing....usually young drivers in over powered cars driving too fast for conditions. I'm 66 years old and we did it when I was a kid. In any case...occasionally LE will look for newer methods to put a damper on the "Street Scene".

Now...dammit all...I'm probably tagged as the "*******" that embarrassed officer "*******" so they will be watching for the "Grey Haired Guy" in the double sharp Polo Green C4 Convertible !!

I live in Florida. In my city that wouldn’t happen. But yes, I have been pulled over by an officer that just wanted to check out my Vette as he has a C7 at home. But there are a few towns in north Florida that are known for their speed traps. Speed limit drops from 65 to 55 to 45 to 35 in less then 2 miles. And they radar all the way through. Then the speed limits increase and decrease again..... They just wait for a car to cruise through all the way at 45.....

That's because there is little enforcement around here

Say he was baiting to bust. If you admit to the ticket and beg for the court's mercy, fine. OTOH, if you fight it and his part comes out as entrapment, isn't that going to be a huge problem? Maybe he is dumb but his boss might not be especially if he catches crap for his subordinate's work.

I have a neighbor with a Hellcat Charger. There is a section of the Florida Turnpike ...50 miles long with no exits or plazas.....between Ft. Pierce and Yeehaw Junction. So neighbor leaves Ft. Pierce with no indicators on his Escort or Aircraft Transponder Detector...opens it up to upper triple digits for about 10 minutes. He slowed back down to near legal as he approached the Service Plaza near Yeehaw Junction, pulled in to buy gas. About 5 minutes later FHP in a Charger Magnum pulls up behind my neighbor and starts quizzing him. Says that he barely caught a glimpse of a car leaving Ft. Piece and ran over 150 for 10 minutes...but never got close enough to see the vehicle again. So my neighbor asked "Is that a fact?" FHP replied "Yes...that's a fact! I can't touch you but I'm watching you !!" Neighbor left headed towards Orlando driving 70 for 65 miles with FHP Dodge 10 lengths back...followed him all the way to I-4 then broke off...flashed his blue lights once and flipped the siren once.

I told my neighbor that I'll bet his tag # is on a Post It note on that guys dash just waiting to see him on that section of the Turnpike again !!:

Another response could be "Sure, let's go"! Give it a few pumps of gas to wet his appetite and then when the light turns, let him take off by himself!

I wonder what the ticket would be for then?

Correct! Here in Tampa, they race across the causeway bridge from one county to the other every weekend till the police run them off. Then there was the accident with the mustang and the Nissan? On Bayshore blvd where a woman was killed while crossing the street with her kid in a stroller. They pulled up the mustangs speed off of the cars computer at over 100mph in a 45 zone. Now it’s 35 mph. Yet a guy posted a video of motorcycles racing down the same street a few weeks ago. I keep sharing the news articles with my son as he’s in a 350z club because I want him to be careful. He says they go to the track to race. I hope they do!

I think this kind of stuff is getting out of hand. I'm all for police doing there job in MARKED CARS but it pisses me off when I see the locals sitting in their "marked" cars, AKA: black Taurus/explorer with dark grey "POLICE" that you can barely see.... They also love sitting behind anything they can find. Love my Valentine one. Big brother will watch but I know when he's watching at least. Granted laser and instant on are tough to beat but most officers must be too lazy to use instant on as I have almost never had it used on me and laser you only see used on the highway. I can pick them up for a good mile before I see them usually. My V1 has paid for itself a few times over. I support law enforcement 100% i just don't like how they are actively converting to "revenue enforcers" and using sleazy tactics to give tickets out. Obviously not all officers are that way but there seem to be more and more these days.

The Florida turnpike tracks how fast you go based off the time between your pings at various toll plazas and other monitoring devices. One of my professors in college wrote the code for it. They actually have all they need to issue tickets for that, they just so far have chosen not to.

I call BS on the neighbor anyways. Hellcats drink too much gas to run that fast for that long.
