Default How to remove turn lever

Ok, have the FSM but dont see anywhere how to remove the turn signal indicator lever. Car is modified with no cruise. So i want to remove so i can machine a new one as i did with the tilt lever. Seriously cant see what is holding it in....Its an 88.

I removed the turn signal lever on my 1992 a few years back and I used a very small open end wrench. There was a small flat spot on the lever pretty close to the steering column where you can use the wrench. If I remember correctly, it unscrews counter-clockwise.

I dont have the book in front of me right now but if you are referring to the turn signal.lever, and not the tilt lever, then make sure the wipers are in the off position and it pulls straight out. I use my left hand with four fingers wrapped around the lever and use my thumb against the column. Pull it straight out.
The tilt lever is the one with the flat spot that unscrews.

Wiring harness for cruise runs down column. Column will need some disassembly to feed it.out intact. Cut connector end off it will pull out. There is a plastic sleeve harness runs through. Lower dash panel will need to be removed to access sleeve. You will need to attach mechanic's wire to old harness and wiggle harness to.get wire out lever opening.. There should be a hole in harness connector of new multi function lever., attach mechanic's wire then feed harness to base of column. You may have to play with it for a while to get it in. Rocking tilt up and down while trying to feed it maybe necessary.. Later columns have a cap that covers cruise connector near tilt lever. Makes it considerably easier.

With wipers there is a "pimple" on metal shaft on that locks into wiper switch. The wiper switch is like a lock cylinder and lever only canbe fully installed and removed in off

Ok, figured as much.....So this just pulls out? Nothing retains it in?

Thanks again everyone!

Heres a pretty good pic that shows the tab Kevova is reffering to.

Oh I get it now, On the earlier cars the wiper switch isn't actuated by the lever, so that makes sense. Still, make sure everything that is controlled by that lever, is in the off position.
