Default Where is gas filler

Being from a State (NJ) that has determined the residents are not smart enough to pump our own gas, since buying my 91 (October) on three occasions of stopping for gas the attendant didn't know where the fuel went.

Anyone have similar incidents?

No, because I've pumped every single ounce of fuel for my cars for nearly 50 years. I've lived in PA, MD, FL, CA and TX in that time, and traveled in many other states, and this is the only requirement like that I've heard of. You need to move...

Clearly the legally required pump people arent smart enough to pump your gas either.

But no, I've never had that issue because I pump my own gas.

I guess requiring attendants keeps the unemployment rate down.

Attendants are not allowed to pour leaded race gas from a jug into my fuel cell.

Oregon requires gas station "attendants" to pump gas for customers. I have seen these attendants find the gas filler neck easily and take a level of care by working carefully and holding a rag under the spout. But I have also seen some of these people smoking a cigarette while they fill a tank.

A couple of times I have told attendants to stand back while I fill my car with gas. Some do, some don't. Sometimes I tell them to stand back while I drive off. Even found a few attendants who immediately grab the 87 octane regular hose without asking what octane gas I want for my Corvette.

Living in Delaware, I have to drive through NJ often. I always plan my trips to fill up before entering NJ because I hate getting gas there. It’s actually illegal to pump your own gas, and the pumps are all locked out so you need a code and can’t get your own gas even if you want. What bugs me the most is stations are always understaffed, so you’ll have a bunch of empty pumps, but only one attendant and a long line of cars waiting. Its the dumbest **** I’ve ever seen. Just one of many reasons to never move to NJ.

I nearly always fuel up just across the border in NJ and have never had such a problem.

Though I always have to unlock the locking gas cap, so that might be a factor...

I always get gas from the same Chevron in Oregon for all my vehicles. I live across the river in WA but work in Oregon. The attendants are always on the ball and they know exactly where the fuel goes. The only time I pump my own is when I’m on my 16 BMW R1200RT. They’re ok with it because they don’t want to cause any damage.

I do have to admit when the air temps are really low or really high I don't mind as much as I watch the attendant shake from the cold or sweat heavily in the heat.

Also, in New Jersey you can pump your own diesel. I guess people that drive diesel vehicles have a much higher IQ.

I've only bought gas in NJ once, in a somewhat remote section and very early in the AM. The guy 'scolded' me good. I guess the WV tags made him feel he just needed to.

Drivers are getting dumber. Vehicle owners are getting dumber. Service attendants are getting dumber. The quality of the average human being has taken a sharp decline, and the collective intelligence of our great nation is dropping. And it's our own fault. At least some of us are trying to be part of the solution

I'm from NJ, when I gas-up the C4, I always ask the attendant to give me the nozzle. Most every time an attendant tries to place the nozzle in, there's some left over gas in the nozzle that spills on the car. Side gas caps don't have that problem.
OTOH, how many cars have the gas cap location on top, and in the middle? Not many.

Coming from NJ, I wish I had a dime for every time I stopped for gas in another state, and waited there like a dummy for an attendant that never shows up.

Ah, But Sir. Your liberty to swing your fist ends at my nose. Where my nose extends is where you decide to involve me. You keep wanting me to get involved in your crap, you keep losing rights. It is that simple. When you go live with Mom and Dad, you live under their roof, get the benefits and PAY THE PRICE. When you ask the govt to take care of unemployment, you ask them to bribe the companies by playing "One Upmanship" to build a factory there to get you jobs but now you pay the price by them taking taxes. You ask govt to take care of your healthcare, they impose rules to limit you eating unhealthy food, etc, etc. Stop asking the govt to take care of things and here is the really difficult part. REFUSE WHAT ENDORSE THEIR PROPOSALS EVEN WHEN IT IS BENEFICIAL TO YOU. People will want the govt to cut out pork UNLESS IT IS TO THEIR BENEFIT. As a result, we have what we have. Cut the military bases that are unnecessary BUT NOT THE ONE IN MY TOWN SINCE IT BENEFITS MY ECONOMY. IOW, NIMBY.

How are you trying to be part of the solution? Would you be able to get enough people to vote against their own selfish interest? Good luck with that. People are basically bad so you'd have to overcome human nature. Would you be a credible enough group to vote against a huge factory plant that will bring jobs to your area to be paid for by public funds even if it brings down your real estate value? Most aren't hence the "Sound and fury, signifying nothing".
