Default Ferrari driver told me once he uses his ferrari ‘for touring’ - what is that?

Just curious if anyone here understands that?

what is ‘touring’?

If you arent gonna drive the car hard (occasionally), then why get it? (Ie. You dont need to have a ferrari in order to just drive around)

Don't quite grasp why you can't understand that.

Many people collect cars as a hobby and don't necessarily drive them. I have several acquaintances who have collections of 20+ cars a number of which are European exotics. Some people drive them just to car shows to show them off or on short "club runs" That's their hobby. I have another acquaintance who drives his family from Seattle to Miami every year in their 2010 612 Scaglietti. They could afford to charter a private plane but they prefer to drive cross country in their Ferrari.

Have difficulty understanding folks who don't think exactly as you do?

I'd do any kind of driving in an F40 and almost anything for an F40.... It's 2019, so it is not so bad to say that I guess. We could all be a little more accepting of driving styles by all that identify as "car guys".

My point is if you arent ever ‘racing it’ or ‘romping on it’, then why have it ?

why be cramped up when you could be in an e class or Cadillac?

ive never heard a corvette driver say they use their car for ‘touring’. Its an odd word-choice.

There is a c2 vert owner around me that gets on it every chance he can (with wheelspin) and it looks/sounds amazing.

I think there are a ton of people on here who rarely drive their Vettes hard. To each their own, as long as they get enjoyment out of their ownership experience it’s not my business what they like to do with it.

OK , the second point of my post is why is it ‘touring?’

why not just ‘driving around ?’

do i need an italian megabuck car to be able to ‘tour’?

or am i just driving around when im in my c4 (and not getting on it)

It's called "cruising" and that can include anything from a short 45 minute drive to nowhere and back to a three day trip just seeing the countryside. Smoke the tires, pull some hard cornering G's or not...your choice. I have two "toys" for cruising, my 94 LT-1 and a '56 Chevy 150 sedan. Getting behind the wheel of either always puts a smile on me.

Thats my point, cruising im ok with.

you will never hear a ferrari owner say they are ‘cruising’ , thats something mustangs, camaro, (and corvette) owners do.

you are famous in that ferrari (or other megabuck car) , like a rockstar, you are ‘touring’

thats why i think that word choice is selected

Yup fancy word for driving around...most the racing stuff youll see with straight axled cars. No goofy shoes or gloves needed

Watch a few episodes of Top Gear (the old ones with Clarkson, May and Hammond). The ones where they "tour" in exotics from one exotic location to the next. To me, touring is a term reserved for the GT type cars (hence the name Grand Touring), a beautiful, expensive, comfortable and extremely fast way to eat miles, such as driving around Europe from country to country. Live the dream if you can! There is also a class of racing called touring in RC cars, which are often modeled after sporty looking sedans. But touring is certainly not cruising, nor vise versa.

If I had a F40 I would do more touring around than going like a race car. Reason? Why drive fast to try and instill fear when you can go slow and create envy?

Sometimes when I'm working in the yard, and need a break, I just slide into my 'vette to enjoy that super comfortable seat, and the special feel of the cockpit. No touring required! Guess I'm weird!

I occasionally push my 92 ZO7 pretty hard but there is a setting on the suspension select switch that is called “tour” so GM must of thought at some point owners would just be “touring”.

Vette drivers say cruising instead of touring. A lot of people would say if youre not doing road corse track days why have it. Its all what people want.

For me, the only Cadillac that interests me is the Escalade EXT. But they stopped making those.

Yes, i saw that.

This is GM’s attempt back then to make you think its a ferrari.

Which Ferrari model does he have? I'd have no problem touring, cruising, racing or just sitting in one.

Not sure how people dont understand what touring means. For Christ sake there are motorcycles marketed as touring and sport touring. Touring is not a new word.

Sounds better than the knuckle dragger mumbling “Cruizin”.
