can anyone tell me why there is a Sprague Capacitor in my engine area? will this hamper the performance of my corvette if I remove it?

I built those capacitors at Sprague Electric in North Adams, MA in the 70s. I worked there in the summers while home from college. What year is your car? I don't know why it's there but Sprague was a leader in Caps and sold a lot to Texas Instruments.
