How to make more power
Hi, my brother has an APR tuned GTI making around 310hp. I was wondering if you guys have any ways to make more power out of an L98 without doing cams and heads.

Had my prior '88 up to 300chp.
-open air lid, K&N, ported plenum, intake & runners, siamesed tubes & base
-tossed "frisbee", underdrive pulleys, TB coolant bypass, 160deg T-stat
-1.6:1 RRs, stiffer springs, Ti retainers
-stock headers, 2 1/2" mandrel bent front Y, hi-flow cat, hi-flow cat-back
-AFPR with bumped fuel pressure
-Hypertech dist., 50ohm/ft wires, OEM plugs with cut-back electrodes gapped to .040"
For the strip had the A4 modified:
-2,000rpm TC, hardened gears, 6,000rpm WOT shifts.
With heads, cam and FL headers TPIS has shown that ~360chp is attainable from an L98.
Good luck and have fun with your "quest".

Tell him you'll race for 10k miles and his car can't reak in that time. :-)
Heads are the limiting factor on almost every car, L98 included. If youre not willi g to do heads or a cam you wont make much power.

Ready?
*Miniram (or converted LT1) intake
*LT1 take-off exhaust
*"Free mods"
*LT1 manifolds
*1.6 rockers and valve springs
*Tuning
You could do all that for under $1000.00 with some shopping around. Should get you past 300 CHP pretty easily.

What mods done year transmission gear ratio bodystyle etc is your car?Even though the L98 only got a MAX 20 horsepower bump through its run there can be quite a difference in performance depending on those factors stock for stock an L98 and a NEW Golf GT1 are pretty equal a 90hp bump to one can put one in the mid 13’s in the 1/4 so thats your benchmark if youre looking just to be faster
