Default Help ID'ing Engine Bay Components

Hi all,
Tried to find answers on my own but since I don't know what the @#$@@ it is I'm actually asking about, I didn't make any progress. There are 3 boxes attached to the left side of the intake assembly on my '96 (LT1), which I believe are relays for......something. The left most one came loose one night and snagged the left headlight in-transit when I was cycling them in the garage (showing off the pop-ups to my kid). I was easily able to put everything back together, but I'm concerned about how easily these might disconnect and what stops working if they do. Especially at 75mph.

While I was poking around under the hood I also noticed a cable dangling around that doesn't seem to go anywhere. It's hanging out in the front corner of the engine bay (the gray connector in the center of the 1st pic below), and the cable run leads up onto the inside of the hood and disappears into a bulge that looks like it sits right over the wheel when the hood is closed. Same situation on the right side. It looks like a connector that should be attached to something, but I'm wondering if maybe it's some sort of sensor instead. Any help is much appreciated!

Not positive, but I think the 2 that match are cooling fan relays and the black on is the horn relay.

Also, they are mounted on the fan shroud. The air intake starts at the air filter going to the throttle body on front of the intake manifold.

The dangling connector looks like the connector for the underhood lights on my 84. Might be the same thing on your 96.

The danglers are for underhood lights. Some people disconnect them when leaving the hood open for extended periods to save the battery, especially if you have the original incandescent bulbs in them. Then they just leave them disconnected. Not much light from them anyway.

Relays in the 'first snapshot' that you're concerned about: ALL 3 relays are cooling fan related on a '96 !

Thanks all for the info (including what they relays are mounted on - clearly a noob, here). I think I will just periodically check and make sure that those relays are snug on the fan shroud.

I'll have to check out the underhood lights and see if they come on - I thought they did, but maybe I just noticed they were there and they weren't actually on at the time. Sure seems unlikely that they would have been on with the cables disconnected!
