Budget friendly 275/40/17 tire?
Coming across some sumitomos, nexen, and federal tires priced at about $85-90 anyone have experience with cheap entry level tires? Summer or All season performance is fine by me.
Looking for some suggestions.

I have the federal 595ss. They are decent tires for burnouts and generally degenerate behavior. They dont have a ton of grip, but theyre not terrinle either. They dont like cold but do surprisingly well in rain.
Tires you get what you pay for. If you arent loo,ing for cheap burnout tires like i was, i woild get so ething nice like the BFG Comp T/A.

Like I mentioned I don't drive the car a whole lot and if I do it is only in nice weather.

Thats a pretty great price on the BFGs. I paid about that for my federals.

My decent-ultra-high-performance-tire-on-a-budget recommendation is the Riken Raptor ZR A/S. They are a subsidiary of Michelin, and are good quality at $101 in your size. They have good grip in the dry and work well in rain. They don't have super sharp steering response and need to be operated at fairly high slip angles to generate max grip. The flip side of that is that they ride well and are pretty quiet, and put power down pretty well too. I use them for street tires on my car and recommend them all the time.

Stock C4's also came with 285/40/17 tires on 9.5" wheels (the rear on '93-'96). Although the selection is not too good and frequently cost more.
I have used 275/40/17 and 285/40/17 on all four corners with 9.5" wheels with good results.
I have used Sumitomo HTRZ tires on a couple cars. They are not the best at anything, but they are a good compromise in a less expensive tire. I ran them for several years on a daily driver. They have pretty good traction, cornering, and even lasted over 40k miles, so for a street car they worked well for me. If you are after a performance tire you can do better, but expect to pay more too.
There are also some deals that come up fairly often. I got a close out on Continental Extreme Contact tires 285/40/17 for $83 on closeout from Tire Rack a couple years ago. Discount Tire Direct has a rebate sale on most holidays that can drop the set price by $100. Rebates from the manufacturers are pretty common too. In short, if time permits, shop around a little and maybe there are some good deals to be found.
Good luck.

You know that's only an H-rate tire, right? Even the 1984 C4 came from the factory with V-rated tires, and nowadays V-rated is bottom of the barrel. I wouldn't put BFG Super Sports on my C4 unless they literally just had to hold the car off the ground - like to roll them around a lot or put the car on a trailer. BFG has a good ultra-high-performance all-season tire, the g-Force Comp-2 A/S, but it is a step up in price (and for good reason!).

I just need a basic around town - grocery getter type tire as that's all I use my car for.

I picked a set of these Cooper RS3s from Discount Tires ebay store.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-New-Coope...EAAOSwH~Rb0eGB
at the time they had $100 rebate from discount tire, and 100 rebate from cooper. Set of 4 to my door total cost was $264. So far great tires!

Discount tire is the best. If you have a local store you can ship the tires directly to it and save the tax.

I have never had either of those brands so I cannot advise how well they will perform or how long they will last. I do have the BFG's https://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/tire...rce-comp-2-a-s they are good in the rain, low road noise, ride nice, and they handle okay. You are not going to get any record-breaking 60' times with these.

You may actually be right, since it turns out I was looking at a much smaller size in that model. However, it's all moot anyway because these are way out of production and you can't buy them new now.
