Headers + Corsa = ok , but you have to choose the correct Corsa.

I had issues with drone, if you don't have any sort of cross over, that's a big part of your problem.

Mine was so bad i tried a second x-pipe and never looked back.

This image broke my sister in law's new boyfriends brain.
He can't figure out why i did this, even after explaining it 4x and me drinking 90% of his beer.

My old system on my 91 was Hooker long tubes headers, 2.5" pipes, no cats, an x-pipe and two chamber Flowmasters with tips that extended probably 3" past the bumpers. It sounded incredible outside, but the drone in the cabin would rattle the fillings out of your teeth. I bought two used Corsa mufflers here on the forum (mufflers only.......not a cat-back). I'm fairly sure they were mufflers from an LT1 system. I changed the mufflers only and the rest of the system remained untouched. With the Corsas the drone is 100% gone. The car is probably a bit quieter at idle, but seems louder at WOT. I'm happy because I can now drive the car without wanting to shoot myself.

I think systems came be made that don't drone . I have a set of GHLs (no longer made) on a 550 HP C-5 Kools Lts bullet cats NO drone . I guess it cost money to do the work to make a system that does not drone . I think they just don't want to spend the money to do the work needed to make a no drone muffler .. My GHLs do not drone .. Might be the LS motor ??? Just saying

The C5 is a little easier to deal with, the resonant frequency is different. All that really matters is if the muffler is doing a good job removing those frequencies or not. The corsa uses a tuning pipe to remove it. Others use the sound deadening properties of the muffler to remove it. It's all in the design. But a better flowing muffler it's hard to get it out without sacrificing flow. The Corsas are probably the best at this for C4s.

It does cost money to make an efficient muffler that is loud and doesn't drone. OEM style won't and for the most part... open exhaust doesn't too bad either strangely enough.

One of the issues that controls drone is the amount of flow into the muffler. This is why GM has the baffle that opens and closes.

My worked 85 with a 6 speed , drones in 6th gear because the motor is at 1800 rpm at 70.
If I drop to 5th gear , I'm at 2900 and the drone is gone, it's actually pretty quiet.

Thats one way of solving it or you can just put a pair of stock mufflers back on it...for probably under $100

These would help. Could also go to the drug store and buy disposable foam ones for a couple bucks. I never ride the interstate on a bike without earplugs (disposable foam, never had fancy reusable ones). By your description of the affects on your hearing, you're damaging your hearing every time you drive the car. Use ear plugs AT LEAST until you resolve the problem.

This is another example of how we screw ourselves by moving away from stock.

My 85 (pretty stock... I havent looked closely at the exhaust yet...) drones badly right at 1700... so badly that I avoid that rpm at all costs when cruising around.

Shakes the entire car.
