Hey gang just wanted to make you aware of something I just came across. When we are replacing our entire carpet set we need to be replacing the padding as well. Overtime the factory padding gets compressed and in my opinion no longer works efficiently. I ordered a complete carpet set manufactured buy Auto Custom Carpets. My order was placed through one of their vendors. In the description it claims that it comes with padding but it only comes with padding for the heel area on the floor carpet. It does not come with any padding for the hatch area. So you will need to make your own padding set. I simply bought a roll of jute padding to make all of my new templates. Other than that the carpet seems to be of good quality, the only other thing I will have to do is dye alot of my interior pieces as they are severely faded over time. I will make a separate post for that and you can follow along with my progress.

I put a set of ACC carpet in my 84. It was good quality but no where near the quality of what was in the car originally. As you said no padding was included. It fit just fine and made the car look brand new. For the price I paid I have no complaints. Looking forward to seeing your progress on you interior.

I wonder if they sell individual sections? I'm doing the switch to torch red interior and I shampooed all the carpet, WOW that is bright red. I ask about individual pieces because the carpet that is on the trans tunnel(drivers side) is in OK shape. The heat has dried out the backing and some of the carpet strand are coming out. Other than buying a new piece, is there anything I can apply to the carpet or the backing to stop it?
The only pieces I have found that can be purchased separately are the carpet pieces that on on the bottom of the door panels on the early c4s. I purchased a torch red set to replace the carpet in my 84 for under $300.00. It has a poly backing on it and not near the padding that the original carpet set had as mentioned by the OP.

Its OEM carpet I bought from a forum member, so its got the backing, just dried out on the one piece. Crazy idea...I was hoping some type of clear coat to secure the carpet pile coming out and/or some coating on the back side to prevent future disintegration....like I said, crazy idea.
The carpet I purchased has a poly coating on the backside. It looks like some type of flexible coating applied to the backside of it. It is clear in color and seals the backside of the carpet. I would try some polyurethane coating to see what it does on the carpet you are taking out to see what it does. I would contact a shop that deals with carpet and see if they could give you some help.

If you contact Auto Custom Carpets directly I believe you can buy individual pieces. Unfortunately any fix you try to apply to your damaged piece will only be a short-term Band-Aid. I would just bite the bullet and buy a new piece.
Please post pictures and descriptions of your progress...very interested in watching your progress.
A new thread has been started for the carpet installation so far. I worked parts of the day and was able to complete the hatch area. I have to wait until I get all my other pieces vinyl died so they match the rest of the carpet.

That's great news that I can get individual pieces and I saw in your other thread that you were able to get pieces for the kick panels. The '96 passenger side is vinyl, so I might go the SEM route after I see how the plastic pieces turn out
