Melting Slicks
On some level these kind of posts make me sad as these cars were meant to drive and have fun with and not just sit. On the other hand I am glad the previous owners of my 96 chose to put only 27,000 miles on it in a quarter century thus saving the miles for me. Dan

Took my new to me 1990 C4 out yesterday and today, bought it with 24k miles last fall and with every drive it honestly feels better and seems to smooth out more. I agree the copper car will be an unused peacock but damn that color looks amazing!!

Drifting
As an item of interest, from my research, many of the Copper cars were sent directly from Bowling Green to the GM Mesa Prioving Grounds in Arizona (now defunct). The paint (deemed defective) was tested in the Arizona sun for non-uniform paint fade across various panels. From there, they were sold off to the public after some period of time. At least that's what happened to my car. Quite a few Copper 94's ended up in Arizona, where I found mine.
A Copper '94 convertible greeted visitors at the entrance to the Corvette Museum on opening day. Supposedly GM kept 2 of the 24 convertibles. I've been told that another was found in a junk yard up in Canada - but that's unverified.
I beleive the story goes that the color was originally seen on a Porsche at a car show by some individual, who then decided to paint their 1963 SWC the same copper color - made to look like a shiny penny. From there, someone at GM saw the SWC and decided to inrtoduce the copper color on new 1994's. I read this story years ago - again its unverified, but interesting if true.

I agree... with a very similar story. mine had 28k when I purchased it last May , just turned 30 in October Can't wait for spring and no salt on our roads here in NJ.to get back to it! Love that color also!!! Wish GM could have found a formula to make it last.

I met a guy at a NCRS meet in NJ years ago, but he had a 1977 black coupe that had 78 miles on it, the car only goes in Reverse, and only in drive to drive it out the covered trailer, I guess it takes all kinds ?
