Default First Try at a Fuel Pump Replace

Hi everyone. I just completed my first try at replacing my fuel pump on my 1989 and need your advise. The original one stopped working due to the plastic electrical plug breaking on the side of the plug (broken plastic exposing the metal prong). I bought a new pump and the plug that came with it just had bare wires at the other end. So, I cut off the old plug and connected the new plug to the existing wires using two uninsulated butt connectors. Is there anything else I need to do before I put it back in the tank? Thanks for your help.
Mark

Insulate those crimps. The last thing you want is those two wires sparking in a literal gas tank.

Most heat shrink will degrade in the presence of gasoline. Ask me how I know...

Yeah id put each of those wires in a small length of fuel hose so they cant touch each other. Obviously the fuel wont bother it.

When I replaced the fuel pump on my 1985 Corvette, I replace the inline fuel filter as well; which is located on the inside of the passenger side frame (by the door area). Also, as a personal preference, I unhooked the battery before I commenced replacing the fuel pump.
