Default Question about Z51 to Z52

I have the Z52 sport handling package on my vette. Whats the difference between the Z51 performance handling package to the Z52 ?

The Z51 option had the Z52 enhancements and restrictions, plus:
-stiffer springs & shocks
-finned ps cooler.
-restricetd to manual tranny coupes.

No the Z52 had the base suspension, but had all of the other goodies that came with Z51. Scorp will know.

Z51 is preferable for an autox car, Id never say Z51 is preferable for a street cruiser. Mine is Z51.

The only difference that I can see between the Z51 and the Z52 is that the Z51 has the power steering cooler and the amount of turns of the steering wheel from lock to lock.

The quick steering ratio is the same for both Z51 and Z52. The primary difference between the two are stiffer springs on the Z51. Both options have 9.5" wide wheels, oil cooler, booster fan, HD radiator, bigger sway bars, Bilstien shocks, etc.

The Z51 is THE stock combination to have for an autocross car, the Z52 will provide a somewhat smoother ride, but has much better handling characteristics over a base suspension car.

Z52 has...

1. Base spring rates.
2. Base wheel rates.
3. Base rear swaybar, same front swaybar as Z51.
4. Base front lower bushings.
5. Bilstein shocks (not the Z51 valving though)

you mean that some of us dont like answering the same questions every week?

Hell we could make a FAQ and C4 Tech would be barren, then make a thread where people show off their rims, and C4 General would be barren.

I can tell you this.. The RPO code Z-52 was an additional $470.00 "sport Handling Package" that is listed on my window sticker and build sheet.

Everyone has an opinion...
I have the Build sheet..and my window sticker..for my Z-52.. If anyone has a RPO code Z-51 maybe they can post what is says it for you as well.
Good luck.

Default Re: Question about Z51 to Z52 (Rick Williams)

When I was looking for a vette to buy I wanted the Z51 cuz I had heard that the Z52 was just a minor upgrade as opposed to the full sport suspension with added frame rigidity. I might be wrong but that's what I was hearing from all the vette people at the time. All I know for sure is I LOVE my vette's handling! :auto:

When they re-introduced it in 96 I wanted it as my older models have Z51 and I always liked it. The cost in 1996 was $300.00 or so...

I still like it ... Since I did not want to pay for the adjustable suspension (In 1996) and would likely not do any suspension mods for a while I chose Z51...
