My next Vette... Advice needed.
Hi all...
This is my first post so please, be gentle.
After driving a Probe for six months I feel the need for a real car... A Vette. I've had three before and all have been pretty much a disaster, so I really want to make sure I get the right car this time. I'm in the UK so don't have much choice, plus prices seem to be over the top for Vettes here at the moment. What I plan to do, unless advised otherwise, is come to the US in May to buy a car and import/export it to the UK. Is this a good idea? It seems that I will get a newer car for my money this way, judging by the prices on the autotrader website.
I have noticed that cars seem to have a high mileage over there, i.e. a 1992 Vette with 111000 miles on it. Is that high or does it just seem that way to me cause I live on an island! Are there any UK members who have imported a Vette themselves that can give me some advice? I was going to focus my search in Florida, good idea?
Any advice appreciated... And I hope to be a 'proper' member soon.

High mileage is all relative. We have a lot of commuters so 111,000 miles may sound like a lot, but if they are highway miles, it isn't that bad.
A car is only as good as the guy who maintains it. If a car with high miles has been neglected, I would stay away, but if one with high miles has been properly cared for, I don't see a problem. My '95 currently has 112,000 miles on it, that's not really a lot. These cars love to be driven and driven hard. But I take great car e of my cars.
My '93 on the other hand barely has any miles(39,000) and you can tell the difference, the 5 previous owners obviously didn't care for it too well, I've replaced a bunch of stuff, some because I wanted to and some because I had to.
I don't know what it would cost to ship a car overseas, but that's definitely a factor in your purchase price.
We have a lot of great cars for sale here, and you can get a great deal, but if it costs tons of $$$ to bring it home, it may not be worth it.
Good Luck

Welcome to the forum :seeya try to buy a 96, less problems, it will all depend on the car I know, but at least the 96 has a vented Optispark, and if you're in the U.K. you get plenty of rain over there. B.T.W. my mom is from Hampshire, grandparents lived in Fordingbridge, close to Salisbury, and my Uncle is still in London. Good luck with your search

:yesnod: C4s are at their bottom or close to it over here. Some real good deals can be had. You may want to start another post titled "shipping a vette to Europe" to get some of the importing questions answered

I wouldn't focus strictly on Florida. Most of us in the Northern states don't drive our cars year round. Therefore less miles on them. Not to mention the baking in the hot sun (I'm just trying to make myself feel better. Damn Snow!)of the southern states. Less paint fade and damage to the interior. Just some food for thought. Get the newest one possible.

Best place to buy any car is Los Angeles California. http://www.autotrader.com with a 90041 zip code.
Southern California is a car town. The rest of California is not.
Lowest miles, best prices, largest selection.
There are on line overseas shippers from LA.
My advice is to buy 2 cars. One will pay for the other.
Theres not rust in LA.

Prices for vetts seem lower in the winter months. Spring, April and May seem to bring higer prices, seems every one gets the fever that time of year. :auto:
