Default lt4 "peakiness" normal?

My lt4 does something weird at about 4800 rpm and again at 5500 ish.

It like, hesitates a second, then revs FASTER than it did before.

The car doesn't miss or anything, just kinda pauses, then revs faster than it did up until 4500-4800 ish to red line. like boost engaging.

Perhaps it's a diff cam, doesn't feel like any of the the lt1's i've driven, maybe a hot cam the previous owner installed and didn't tell me?

Any one with a similar situation lemme know. Not that i mind the sudden surge of power, but it just feels wierd for an naturally aspirated car with a suposedly stock cam.

Even with a hot cam you wouldn't feel anything like that. A hot cam in an otherwise stock motor still leaves a very smooth power curve. After you add headers it throws a nice jump in there around 3500 rpm's but there's still no hesitation to it.

:iagree:

Smooth, strong rush to redline. Like a big electric motor on steroids.

How many miles on the car?
Something could be causing the timing to retard, or maybe the optispark is wearing out.

These were the symtoms I had early on as my optispark began to fail. A couple of weeks later it wouldn't even start. Hope it not the opti, if you can't do your own work, get ready to drop $800-$1200.

yeah, i've had my opti go before already, but this one has like 10 thousand miles on it. i drive it in winter and rain etc... so mine dont last long, fortunately my warranty covers the opti-suck, and sometimes even plugs and wires if i can claim they broke cuz of optispark failure.

I'm thinking it's that or plugs/wires. I'll do it in spring, along with all the other maintenance.

Id bet on the wires. I have 2 olds auroras (ok, theyre Mom and Dads not mine). after about 25k miles the cars they seems to sputter slightly at around 3500 and then pull hard to redline. Every time its the wires on the back 4 (by the firewall). seems they just cant stand the heat. This solved it every time so far for that car... its just a guess but maybe theyre dying.
