Does anyone know about how much I would be paying for insurance if I had a corvette anywhere from 1990-1996 when im 18 or 19 years old and i live in california but i have not had any accidents, tickets and i wouldn't be the primary driver on the vette? :auto:

You can go to http://www.allstate.com and get a free qoute. That should at least give you a general idea of what you'd be paying. It all depends on who's listed on what cars. In my case I'm 17 but am listed as a primary driver on an escort and my mom and dad are listed on the vette. Good luck with the purchase.

the reason auto rates are so high for youthful drivers is because they have more tickets and accidents than any other group of drivers. young males are the higest. yes they do charge more for high performance cars and sports cars. why? because statistics tell us youthful drivers have even more tickets and accidents in those types of cars. look, i get it and so do you. when i was 19 i passed a string of fire trucks on their way to a fire! i know how kids drive and so do the insurance companies. you cant bs me, ive done everything in life except go to prison or be a queer. do it the way i suggested and youll be fine.

Just don't get into an accident in the vette while you are driving, you and your parents will get kicked out of current insurance, right away.

I'm paying roughly $300 a month for my 1990 for full coverage. I'm 19 and live in Las Vegas. I'm on my parents big-butt policy which covers 4 cars, a house, etc, otherwise it would be more. I'm working on getting one of my parents names put down as the main driver of the 'Vette, so I can stop taking it in the butt.

Very good suggestions...I would add 1 more. Don't even tell the insurance company that you're driving, or of age to do so. Let your parents insure it. Most of the time (in my case when I was your age anyway), they'll miss it or won't even bother to ask. You insure the car, not the driver so you'll be okay (premium wise) until you need to make a claim. Worst scenario is that something happens, you make your claim and then your rates go up. Better odds the other way!
I would not recommend the comment I have listed above that was made in a post earlier. Not telling the Insurance Company is a quick way to getting cancelled. Most insurance companies put in a clause that states “NO ONE under the age of 25 is allowed to drive this car”, when you don't list your teenager on it. Not listing you as a driver + ticket or wreck = your parents losing the insurance or worse you have a wreck and it not being covered. I would at the very least have your parents list you as a secondary driver on the car. My wife works for one of the biggest Insurance Companies in the US I've heard the stories. Some things are not worth rolling the dice on. :nono:

Re: Insurance...17 years old!
I bought my '85 vette when I was 20... Clean / Expunged record .. :D ..
Had my license since I was 16, had 3 cars, My insurance was $5400 for the 1st year, $4500 for the next year and then dropped as I added 2 other dialy drivers, and paid the car off, so I just have Liability on it, no collision. this way as a weekend driver, i pay about $700 a year. I put on about 2-3K miles a year. Good luck finding a cheap insurance at a young age for a sports car with FULL insurance requirements..I sure didn't find one back in '95.

One way to get around terrible rates is to also get a beater car and have that is your primary driver. Then list the Corvette as a "pleasure use only" for the cheapest rates on it. I have been doing that since I was 16 since I have only owned sports cars. I am sure you will make back the few hundred $$ you paid for the beater your first few insurance payments. I have a reckless on my record and I only pay $400 every 6 months on the Vette.

You sound like me, I went from a 10th Anniversary T/A to an 87 Vette. I'm 18 and I only have liability. I'm paying $1000 a year. Get the Vette!

When I was under 25, I had the Vette under my parents insurance policy, but I was listed as a driver. I had my own poilcy and I insured a beater. It was cheaper for two car than one corvette under my name.
