There have been many debates over which transmission is better for what use and such, and often it seems (on the forum) the manual is more popular. Is this just because enthusiasts, who would perfer the control of a manual and may be more likely to post on an enthusiast forum, end up giving the impression that there are more manual Corvettes? The reason I bring this up is because I often hear how the majority of vettes are automatic and manuals are harder to find. I believe the same statistical average should carry over to the forum. So what transmission are you sporting?
BTW, mine's an A4. I'm kinda getting tired of hearing the bashing of the automatic and the vast superiority of a manual...so where are all these automatic owners
I just like shifting, all my cars have always been a manual and the vette of course would be a manual, plus for autox it stays where I want it
The '86 I used to have had an automatic. I will never have a performance car again with an automatic. It's just a personal choice for me. When you shift manually it just "feels" more like a sports car. :steering:
Which is better for autox, drag racing, etc. I'll leave that to the experts :)
I always love this topic because it tends to bring out the emotions! :lurk:
My personal preference for any Corvette (or previously owned muscle cars) that I own is that it has to have a manual transmission. I feel that all Corvettes should have had manual transmissions. But again, that is my personal preference! If you or anyone else wants an automatic transmission in your Corvette then more power to you! It is your Corvette!!
I do believe that automatic transmissions have there place! That is why we own a pick-up truck and a mini-van! :D :p:  :lolg:

There's no need. I don't care who thinks what it better...
I'm just curious how the forum seems to be mostly manual owners. Is it that the automatic owners feel inferior and are afraid to post? Look, the first three replies have all been for manual, some proclaiming it a MUST. I just get confused when i see stuff like that, then turn around and hear 75% of vettes are automatic.
Mines an A4, I would prefer a manual for the feel, but my feet are too big and my foot would rest on the clutch, i barely have enough room in there as it is.
I get sh** all the time for it being an automatic, but after mine is modded with my grad school stipends, i'll be leaving manuals in a cloud of dust at the drag strip.
It would be nice to have a manual for autox though, the A4 likes to hunt gears.

Re: Majority transmission? (JSA 007)
Both my Vettes have auto. The Ruby was too hard to find with a six speed and the MY is basically my wife's so auto it was. Also the traffic down here can get horrendous so the auto is best in those conditions :seeya
My red 88 4+3 was a manual and I loved it; but I have a minor problem with the ageing proicess, so I switched to an auto in my whitr 96, LT1. This was a very good move but it was a personal adaptation.
I would have liked a manul but when I bought mine the Corvette market was very strong and I couldnt afford a 6-speed and the 4+3 scared me because I didnt know anything about it and had heard alot of bad things about expensive repairs That being said I really like the auto but if I could do it all over I would have saved more and got a 6-speed.
