1986 Brake Master Cylinder Rebuild
I want to rebuild the brake master cylinder and am having a hard time finding a rebuild kit. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Is the inner surface of the cylinder smooth? Can you see any flaws?
They don't usually get rebuilt because the honing kits do more damage to the aluminum than the wear ever does. I've also heard you can get sleeved ones. If you're insistent on reusing it, just buy a new oring seal kit for it.
I have one off my 85 that appears to work perfectly with the new oring set in it, but it scared the hell outta me when fluid leaked past the piston and the pedal went to the floor, so I won't dare risk putting it back in.

The wonders of the automotive parts world. The rebuild kit is $91.96. A new master cylinder is $104.68. If you don't mind a rebuilt with a lifetime warranty,$67.44. These would carry the Wagner logo.

Re: 1986 Brake Master Cylinder Rebuild (Muffin)
The car has only 17K miles on it. The master cylinder began leaking where it mounts to the booster after I flushed the system using the two-person procedure. I think the seal was damaged when the piston was pushed beyond it's established range of travel. I haven't disassembled it yet. From now on, I'm going to use my hand operated vacuum pump when I bleed the brakes. I bought a new Delco unit and installed it, but I would like to put new seals in the one I took off and keep it as a spare. Thanks to everyone for the replies.

Buy a new one. The most important part of your car is the brake system.
