Re: (Vothweirdon) (Strick)
A word to the wise...when I bought my Vette it came with an aftermarket, one piece, spoiler...I like it and it is much sturdier than the stock pieces...BUT...when I went to have my wheels aligned the shop couldn't do it on their fancy Hunter machine because the spoiler blocked the laser...ended up gettin an alignment from some old guy...I think he did it by hand using chalk, string and mirrors...I didn't get a readout either... :(

Strick,
Where did you get the Prowler and how much did it cost? I should replace my front air dam and like how it looks. Thanks.

O.K., here is what could potentially be a stupid question. What does the front air dam spoiler do? Does it serve a functional purpose? My 1984 is missing the center piece. It is well down the list of things to fix, including brakes, weatherstripping, etc.
It helps feed/force fresh air to the radiator. The center piece is definitely a must.

I thought the air dam was used to press the air around the car towards the back (add in side skirts) and it would produce low pressure under the car thus forcing the car lower at high speeds giving you better handling.
I may be wrong but I am sure that is what it is for

I took mine off to run a RallyCross. I left it off for nearly two years (lazy), just recently put it back on. The temperatures did not change any with it gone.
I did not notice any handling problems either. I almost like the looks without it better. On the other hand, I took off the relatively small black airdam underneath my 1986 Z28 and the car ran much hotter (but never overheated) without it. I didn't wait two years to replace it.

Re: New Front Air Dam Spoiler -- GM vs Aftermarket (RED-85-Z51)
the spoiler on Z51 equipped cars were I think 1 inch lower than standard cars. I know my stock air dam is really low (wide) about 3.5-4" or there abouts.
