Default Not quite the same ole: 91 L98 engine Vs 92 LT1

I know L98 Vs. LT-1 comes up all the time but i wanna pin it down to the last year L98 (1991) which is generally considered much more refined than an 80's version vs. the first year of the LT-1 (1992). Which has more useable power. By this i mean if you were by chance at a streetlight and could race like an 1/8th mile or a little bit more is the Lt-1 given all other factors equal really gonna pull on a 91 L98. Your thoughts please. Personally i like the around town feel of the L98 couples with the late C4 body and interior but of course i am biased, lets try and be as unbiased as possible.

obviously if you are picking a 80's L98 over a 92 Lt-1 than you are voting for the 91 L98. I am not knocking the 80's version at all i am just thinking the 90 and 91 are more refined and were quoted with a decent amount more power than the 80's version. Plus NO BIAS ALLOWED:)

Stock for Stock the L98 will pull out off the line, but th LT1 will beat it by the time it gets to the 1/8 mile mark.

Note: I am not bios, I have owned both and now have an LT-5

We live 5 miles from each other and help each other out with fixing / modding the cars. That is part of the curiousity but i had it before then too. We are planning a street or strip light encounter in the very near future.

Jim will kill me for posting this yet again, but on the left(4477) is my stock LT1 with no mufflers, on the right(4842) is Jim's stock L98 with a few tweaks.

Now of course I'm biased, but in this case I'm showing the facts.

Also look at the torque curve of my car. Relatively flat which is what you want.

Mines an ZF6 '91 L98 w/3.45 rear gears and Ive walked away from LT1 Y and F bodies but they were all AT's and prolly that crappy 259 rear gears so I cant say positively. I think a well geared L98 can take the LT1 outta the hole but will always lose on the top end. IMO.

I have said this before when this debate comes up. I have driven many STOCK vettes and they all drove differently. Some were fast some were slow some handle great some felt like the cowl shake would break the car in half. These were 90 - 95 years I were thinking of trading up to at the time from my 89. My stock auto 89 not only beat one of my friends 96 LT4 but anothers 97 auto. It was unusually quick till I popped the motor on one of the many hi speed runs I used to like to do. It was definetly faster than when my 92 6spd was stock. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah we will see. I took the car today to work and she loves cold weather. the 2-3 shift in the automatic threw my head around. I think my alternator issue is straightened out and i am ready to roll. I like both engines although to be honest i have enough power for me right now. I couldn't really use any more in a anywhere near legal fashion and i like that the L98 is easy to work on, cheap to fix and basically uses 50 year old technology to give VERY similar performance. I think the 91 engine may be the best 1st gen SBC built overall. I'm almost to 104,000 miles and i don't use a drop of oil, no leaks no sounds that shouldn't be there. I can't complain.

12.995 @ 107 mph, opps, that will beat a Supra TT. Supra TT 13.1 @ 109.
Good run.
LT-1s are faster but not enough faster to make any real difference. :flag

All of the L98s are so close in power that they are basically identical with varying weather conditions. A gallon or two of gas or a fat azz driver will throw those extra 10 ponies out the window.
