Best weatherstrip
Is there any company that makes a better weatherstrip for the C4's? There has got to be a better weatherstrip out there.
When my Corvette was under warranty, I had the weatherstrip that runs from one door pillar across the rear of the top to the other door pillar replaced twice. Of course it needs to be replaced again(along with other pieces).
I know this is a weakness in the C4's, but there has got to be a company that makes weatherstrip that lasts longer than this. I believe our weatherstrip is open cell, and that's why is doesn't last long. Anyone have a closed cell design?

Use silicone grease. You can get a big tube of pool and spa lube from your local pool supply store.

Per Gordon Killebrew the best is GM and then use silicone grease after every wash or monthly to keep it supple.. I checked with Superior Chevrolet http://www.superchevyperformance.com and they list the targa weatherstrip for $176.13 and the hatch weatherstrip for $111.65. I have heard wonderful things about them on other fourm postings. Click on catalog and then search for weatherstrip. My GM dealer wanted $300 plus for one 10" section of weatherstrip for my 87 vert's window stripping (the rear upper section). Superior Chevy has it for under $40! Good luck! :seeya

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll have to try that pool and spa lube.
Still, every other car I have ever owned or seen has more durable weatherstrip than what C4's have.
I'm surprised no one has come up with a better more durable weatherstrip especially when you consider how quick the C4 weatherstrip goes bad(my car is no garage queen and is kept outdoors, and it does go bad quick).
Solid rubber weatherstrip would be much more durable than the OEM foam type.
It does sound like Superior Chevrolet has good prices though. Thanks!

If you need the get new weatherstripping, get it from Corvette Rubber: http://www.corvette-rubber.com. They make the weatherstripping for GM. Cheaper to get it direct without the GM plastic bag.

Like me, you're just catching the previous owners neglect due to either ignorance or apathy. If you replace your aged weather-strip, get a tube of that spa lube (silicone grease) and use it regularly, you WILL be able to maintain the condition of the your weather-strip indefinitely! :chevy

Hey, my local window guys says to simply apply vaseline on them ocassionally when the top is off. Seems to help, and it's really cheap.

Do you just apply the silicone grease right on top of the weatherstripping? And then wipe off any extra? I might be buying some later today then...

Vaseline rots rubber right? Am I wrong in thinking weatherstripping is rubber mostly? The guy that had my C4 before me put gobs of Vaseline on the weatherstrip at the front of both doors to keep water out instead of replacing the weatherstrip. I really don't like that guy!! :mad
