Anybody else hate driving their car in heavy rain?
We got some pretty wicked downpours yesterday, and there was a ton of standing water in the roads.
When it rains hard, my driver window drips on my leg (and usually right onto the power window switch too). The car is extremely tail-happy in the rain as you might imagine, and the combo of light weight and 9" wide tires doesn't make it much fun when you hit standing water. Of course, when I drive through that water, it splashes my serpentine belt and I lose power steering momentarily. My brakes also got wet so I could barely stop the car.
Yeah, yesterday was fun. :skep:

I hate driving the Vette in any kind of rain...period. I have only had it in the rain 3 times since i bought it over 2 years ago. I had it out in the rain yesterday, the handling wasn't quite as bad as I thought. My Wife will be driving the daily beater ('97 Blazer) for the next week or so until her new car arrives. After that, the Vette gets a bath and some serious detailing. :yesnod:

Re: Anybody else hate driving their car in heavy rain? (Jim85IROC)
Mine's usually ok if the tires are good and I leave ASR on. When I first got the car, the back Goodyear GSC stockers were almost bald. The weekend after I bought the car I drove up to Nashville, and it decided to pour rain the whole trip. I could not go over 45 mph in some places because the back end was drifting around so bad. The ASR was constantly kicking on and off every time I went through standing water. It was VERY scary. But with new Kumhos it seems pretty stable.
The most nerve-racking thing about driving in heavy rain for me is the awful sound the water makes as it is slung off of your front tires on to the floor panels beneath your legs. Sounds like the bottom of the car has been ripped off. I had to change my pants the first time that happened.
Mine doesn't leak water as long as I'm driving, but if I park it for a couple of minutes in heavy rain, it turns into a leg-wetter.

It is my belief that these C4's are alergic to water.

I have gotten caught in rain like that and it is NOT fun. Yep, in a downpour, my drivers window leaves little drips too. I think every c4 leaks a little.
Thats why I bought a beater....drive that on crappy weather days.

I don't take mine out if it even looks like rain. When it gets wet the back end wants to lead and that not cool, even for Halloween.

I forgot, 9 times the square root of your tire pressure equals hydroplaning. So at 36 psi you hydroplane at 54mph. That's with good tires and clean pavement (no oil on roads).

I hate driving my '85 in the rain. In heavy rain, it leaks from the front corner of the targa top on both sides. Other than that, I love the car! :D

With the new Goodyear Eagle F1-GS-D3s installed, I hardly noticed the road was wet. And we get our fair share of rain here in Florida. My only issue is poor road drainage which leaves deep standing water on the roads of the sub-division. No matter how slow or careful I am it blows water to the opti. Although water is not suppose to hurt it only anti-freeze, it runs rough if it gets wet like that and takes a few days to clear back up.
I haven't had it slip or slide or loose traction much less the ASR kick on, maybe its the tires.
I'm much more worried about the idiot drivers on wet roads than my Corvette mis-behaving on wet roads. That scares me.

The Ruby is ok in the rain, only leaked on me once. The 85 is a nightmare, 440 ft/lbs of torque and no traction control

If you think a Camaro with 9" tires is fun, you should try a Corvette with 11" (ok, 10.8" technically) is even better.

Never had a problem driving in the rain, but standing puddles of water yes.
Never had a problem controling the ZR-1 going around corners or anything. Stay off the gas pedal.

Yep it's been raining here all afternoon and suppose to continue on through the night. I just could not tell the roads were wet on the way home. I ever tried, dead stop right turn punched it up to about 3K, all she did was stick to the road and accelerate. These tires just cut through the water and channel it. Plus they don't seem to throw the water up like the GS-Cs did. Sitting at the last light into my sub-division, some japanese toy came to a stop next to me and slid to a stop. You could hear the tires sliding. I thought hmmm, maybe they'll break here, nope couldn't do it they just stuck. Funny part though the Camaro behind me got all squirrley trying to follow. I could see them loose it behind me. Guess they had bad tires. LOL.
Oh yes I have no leaks, even with weatherstriping that needs to be replaced. Guess mine is one of the lucky ones.
