Scariest thing happened on the highway...
I'm driving along at a comfortable 55mph ;), and all of a sudden I hear a wierd sound. I immediately look at the information console, and I see the Passive Keyless Entry indicator lit up! Next thing I know, I'm watching the rear hatch pop open in my rearview mirror! I nearly wet myself. So I of course pulled over and shut the hatch. I was worried that the hatch was gonna tear off due to wind velocity at highway speeds. Thank God nothing happened, but now I'm wondering when it's gonna happen again! The best part, though, is that I don't even use PKE, or carry the fob! The sucker just blew open, kinda like an ejection seat.... I'm laughing about it now, but I know it's just a matter of time before I have a repeat performance...

I am laughing now... sorry. :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: but the visuals are PRICELESS.
I am thinking some kinda weapon emerging from the hatch!
As for cause? No clue... sounds kinda wack to me.

Hatch should not open at all under those circumstances.
Checks to open hatch while vehicle is running:
Manual car: Parking brake set
Auto car: In neutral or Park

My 86 did not have PKE but it happened about once a month for the 2 years I had it. After the third time I tied a shoelace to it so it just popped up a couple inches. I once met Gordon Killibrew and even he couldnt explain it.

To much micro wave food. The after effects. Hatch opening, hood opening, doors opening. :reddevil

Actually my guess on this is something not necessarily with your vette, but with the wiring done. If you had an aftermarket alarm sys installed, you might have pressed a button by accident on your encoder/decoder or maybe your ecm triggered something in the device while you were driving and it submitted rolling codes to open the hatch if you have it on your keychain. I've done s*** like that while I was driving and the vette went haywire...interior lights kept flashing on and off for about a minute...thankfully I don't have it hardwired to the hatch for it to open. I'd get them to check your alarm sys if it is aftermarket and have them check its sensitivity which you can probably detensify through your sys. If your sys isn't aftermarket on the otherhand.....hire an exorcist. :yesnod: Keep in mind this may not be the possession of an evil entity in your vette cuz when you busted azz after you saw the PKE code, the first thing it did was open the hatch to let out the fumes. I think you scared IT more than IT scared you.

No, there's no aftermarket alarm or transmitters anywhere in my car. I'm still stumped on this. I haven't driven it since that day, I'm too afraid! (It's been raining here.)

Re: Scariest thing happened on the highway... (AGENT 86)
The same thing happened to me on my 95. As I was driving the door locks would randomly cycle sometimes, then one day the hatch popped. I never use that feature so I just pulled the PKE fuse and no more worries.
