Lost my door keys, how hard to take door lock pawl off?
Well damnit, I lost my doorkeys. I tried taking in just the rear storage compartment lock pawl, but they said that the console locks only have 4 "tumblers" where the door locks have 6...so, he said either he could take the door locks out for a charge and make a key and put them back in, or I could bring him the door lock and he would make a few keys for $1 each key. Is taking the lock pawl out, something I can do fairly easily? Thanks in advance!

Tim,
When you say pawl, are you talking about the lock cylinder that you actually put the key in to unlock the door?
If so, PAY THE MONEY to have a locksmith make a key for it. Removing the key cylinder isn't a difficult process, it's just difficult because of it's freakin location. We spent 4 hours putting the left one in the drivers door and 1/2 hour putting the passenger one in.
The problem is you can't put your hands in there. It's gotta be done with needle nose pliers, etc... PIA
Save yourself the hassle. Not to mention that I try to take my door panels off my car as little as possible.
Just an opinion...

My 90 didn't have door keys when I bought it. Went to local GM dealership gave them the VIN # and got keys that work. Buy 3 or 4, put in your sock drawer, not on the same key ring!!!!!!!!!!!!! :seeya

Hmm, it's $200 for a keyless entry, so if they want more than $100 to make me a key and shtick, I'm just gonna get a keyless entry...
But I wouldn't consider it as a substitute for the door key. What if you have problems with the keyless?

Bro, I had to do this when I bought my car and getting those door locks out is a pain in the ***** :cuss. You can definately do it yourself but bring lots of patience. Also there is a little C-clip involved buy a whole bag of those and a magnet because you will drop most of them in the door trying to get one on. I think the toughest part was putting it all back together.
