I have my crash pad off and would not mind replacing it with something that does not look cheap,, are their any options other than the Mid America /Ecklers unit? Do thse unit look "aftermarket"?

Any pics would really help?

Larry, here are a couple pics of a glove box option I had bought a few months ago. I'm not too sure I like it, cause the finish is just too glossy for the interior. I like the idea though, and I think I'll shoot it to more closely match the interior finish and put it in when I do the new chip. I got the thing on E-Bay, but the guy sez he doesn't have anymore left.

I've got the flat panel you mentioned. I too painted it along with all the trim on my dash, a "satin" black. It was to glossy. There is a map pocket available like on my '77 vette. But it too looks like crap. I hate to say this, but I wish now I'd left the "crash pad". At least it looked the quality of the rest of the vette. There was, however, a feller from Australia on here, I think, that made a custom panel. It was sweet. Try that if ya like. Now that the panel is in, I don't pay any attention to it. :p:

Cool, I that I saw a cover that had CORVETTE stamped into the plastic that was sold by a vette palce, I gues I'll check around some,, thanks for the pics guys!

I had a custom pad made up, the lettering is done with a sewing machine and the black vinyl has foam behind it with a cut away of the bow tie -



I like it but now which I'd made it hinged so I could store maybe some maps or stuff behind it.

Your picture is "totally cool" showing the modified bread box on the left side. When I first saw this, I had to stop and think "just what am I seeing"! Being used to seeing my BB on the right side of the car , your picture is a big change for me. Thanks for the photo and someone did some good work for you on this modification.

Those plastic panels they sell suxs and they squeak sometimes too.They look real cheap.I bought one and ended up taking it off and throwing it away or something a while back.

Mine now is made from wood and had a upholstry shop wrap mine over in black vinyl and its held up for many years now.Im not sure if you remember it when we went for a spin a few years back.
I can try and get a new picture if you want to see it.

I picked up one of the panels with the embossed CORVETTE on ebay for about 40 bucks. The company that made em is out of business or goes by a different name now. The color and texture is very close to stock. Except in photographs where the color washes out from the flash. Do a search on ebay for corvette dash and look carefully. About once or twice a month one will pop up. Just for the record, I saw a bread box go for 50 bucks last week while a bunch of others were left untouched for 9.99. Some of those were in nice condition too.
