Can calipers be painted with other than caliper paint? I have paint left over from when the the car was painted i would like to use it but unsure if it will last.

just get them powder coated and you won't have to ever worry about paint staying on. :yesnod:

Sure, why not...the calipers rarely get very warm unless you're pushing the crap out of your brakes on a road course...I did mine a month ago with a pint of Rustoleum high gloss black from Home Depot and a tiny foam brush...the key is to clean the heck out of them before you paint...I used copious amounts of brake cleaner...just for fun I did a test last week...after over an hour of driving in stop and go traffic I checked the calipers....they were barely warm...don't touch the rotors though... ..good luck

I use high temp clear and bake them in the oven at 400 for 1 hour then do not open oven door until oven has cooled to room temp. Used same recipe on the rotors too and they never rust and braking is just as good. Ok so you think I'm nuts but it really works.

I used Rustoleum on mine as well. After two years they still look great. All for about $5 and a can of brake cleaner. :yesnod:

$4 can of Rustoleum paint from Home Depot. Need to do rears still (maybe tomorrow) and a bit of black.

Sounds like a good idea, baked on paint is always more durable. Gotta love a gal who uses her oven to bake Vette parts!

But first you have to run them through the dishwasher on the high temp cycle to make sure all the grease is gone. Isn't that what ovens and dishwashers are for?????? Oh yeah, and dinner will be a little late tonight! :auto:

If the calipers rarely get warm, then why is caliper paint rated 1400 degrees?
Can regular paint be used?

I used VHT spray on my last car - haven't done the calipers on the Vette yet.

High Temp engine paint not that expensive and it will work just fine.
Rustolium will probably work also if there's that much difference in price.

this thread made me think "i wonder if anyone ever bought any of those brake dust shields from ecklers"
them painted calipers look great, seems like a must if you have spoke wheels.
