Not to be crass or anything but, check for the presence of fuel and spark in that order. If you have a fuel pressure guage hook it to the "schrader valve" on the fuel rail. Turn the key on and you should have 40+psi. If you don't then you need to go through the diagnostic procedures for fuel delivery. Fuse, relay, pump etc...

Hope this helps.

If you need moe help you can e-mail me directly. (midnite88@bellsouth.net)

Mike, I am probably going to take her somewhere as I am not a mechanic. I am asking to learn and so that I do not get ripped off.
I appreciate your input.

Thanks!

Spray some wd-40 into the air intake if it pops you have a fuel problem if not it could be ign.

I dont' think it will crank if its a VATS issue.

If it is the VATS, the Starter does not engage.

My 93 just did this. Turned out to be the ignition module and ignition coils.

well, I tried both sets of keys so I don't think it's VATS related.....the fuel pump fuse is not blown....the Opti is new and I have no reason to suspect water got into it....

from what you guys are saying so far, looks like it is either the fuel pump or the ignition coils....

any other ideas?

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition to On? It should go for a few seconds.

Or if you smell gas, it means that you have fuel and not spark.

We're assuming that the starter is cranking hard?

Since you said you need to take it to the mechanic, it doesn't matter what we guess, you just start exercising that check writing hand...

The starter is cranking hard and I also tried jump starting....will check on sound from fuel pump....

What you guys think DOES matter.... I learn and the mechanic will not be able to rip me off

I was just funnin' with you. The problem with a no start is that it can be a huge variety of things, fuel, ignition, a fuse, VATS, and so on.

In this case there's not much chance of the mechanic ripping you off, just come back here and give us the mechanic's diagnosis. If you get the car back and it runs you're doing good.

I paid $50 for a used ignition module from another Forum member and purchased the coil from NAPA for $25. I did the labor myself.
