My 1st Vette an 91 only let me down once. Alternator went out. I had it 3 1/2 years and 52k miles..
My 2nd one, a '95, I have had a year now and 14k miles.. Has not left me stranded.
Love driving my Vette!

My vettes have been very reliable-like most small block chevies-keep in mind you're talking about a car almost 20 years old-it's part of the game that comes with lovin a Vette. the alternative is to buy a newer C5-which I ain't gonna do.

I have had several Corvettes a 72, 2-75's, 76, 2-85's, 88, and now a 92. All have them have been very dependable. Out of all of them the '85 gave me the most problems. Now the 92 I currently have has had zero problems other than trim items (darn plastic stuff) and has 152,000 miles on the clock. Will soon be putting and alternator on her as I'm getting the pervertible flickering at low idle. I'm have never been afraid to take any of them anywhere be it around the block to cross country.
Just call me a die hard Corvette owner and loving every minute of it!

When your vette breaks down you have two ways to
look at it.
I only had three wires burn up under
the dash because of a short, didn't take
to long to fix,no big deal.
OR
Damn car broke again, fire under the dash,
seems like i'm always working on it.

My '94 was very reliable in the three years I owned her. Took me to and from work and also several trips out to California from Texas. I put about 60,000 miles on her and was never stranded. A few things started going wrong towards the end but if I was more savvy I would have fixed them and kept her since they were known problems (opti).

I've only had my vette for a few weeks, and it has been very relialbe; although it's not a DD. However, I have owned a bunch of other cars, and in doing so, I have become very aware of the "law of diminishing returns," which is something you might want to take a hard look at regarding your car. And, especially if you indicate that you derive little pleasure from driving the car because you fear that it will break down.
It may have nothing to do with the make of the car, maybe it's just the car.

I drove an 88, 4+3 Coupe from 1989 untill 2001 (130 K miles) and was stranded one time because of an internal battery open. I drove the 1996 from 2000 untill now (25K miles but has 57.5 K on the odometer) and had only one incident, again a battery that failed after 5 years. And so far, no roadside incidents with the 2004 Coupe with 7 K miles.

My first vette was a '67 427/435 and I was young and ran it really hard. Purchased it in 1967 and sold it in 1980 (DUMB Move) with 113,000 + miles and for 10 years a daily driver even in the damn snow. I kept a log book with every expense made and did most of the work myself. Bottom line, it was by far the lease expensive car per mile I have ever owned.
I have had my newer '91 for 6 months and have been changing items out that are optional, such as the steering wheel, but hope that this one is nearly as reliable as the '67. With the '91 being more dependent on electronics I am only somewhat concerned about reliability. I enjoy the ride immensely and am delighted to be back in the Corvette family.

This is my second vette and I'm loving it. I have had to have the tranny rebuilt twice (once under warranty), replaced the fuel pump and battery so far in the year I've owned it. 76000 miles and I drive it every day.

mine is reliable until it breaks, if that makes sense...it will go months wih no problems, but when it gets worked on, the job seems to grow outside the bounds which i had intended.....but i love it no matter what.

I bought mine with a blown headgasket and bad rings in one cyl. Right now there are two motors sitting side by side, and I'm putting the finishing touches on it.
More to the point however, right after I decided to swap a new motor in instead of rebuilding, I drove that thing just out of curiosity. Drove it up and down the coast, and hammered it a few times.. I was expecting it to die a horrible death, so i could have my laugh and tow it back home and finally start the swap. But no, it just wouldn't die. Under the oil cap it looked like toothpaste, oil was more like water then oil, and you could really feel the miss in the upper RPMs - it was frightening and fun at the same time. But no matter how much I drove it, nothing happaned. It started up, idled perfectly, and had decent power through all this. I was chirping into third with a busted motor When I'd shut it off, I'd hear the broken piston rattle around in there.. When I floored it all the pressure would overcome the PCV and spew oil out the dipstick (even though the oil was water-thin with gas and coolant mixed in)
So long story short, I couldn't blow it up. For a whole week I used it as my daily driver just so I could finally bust something. Nope. Ended up driving it to my buddy's house where we yanked it out, still functional. You really had to be there for the compression check and to see the oil to realize how amazing this seemed.

Very. It's 20 years old, and I regularly take it on long trips without hesitation. Longest I've driven in one day with it was 900 miles, 11 hours of driving including city traffic.
Earlier this year, I was driving up and down the state, to Sacramento or San Diego every weekend for job interviews. Glad that's over with. This was all with no spare tire, no cell phone, no tools, and $50 max towing coverage.
Now I'm considering whether to fly to Vegas or drive 90 the whole way.

I went to change the plug wires, and 3 hours later had the entire topend of the motor disassembled.

I bought my '87 in 2000, and it goes through a couple of things every year: water pump, alternator, heater core, fuel pump, catalytic converter, master cylinder, clutch. . .and it just eats switches! In addition, I try to catch up with things along the way: steering rack, shocks, better tires, carpets. It's got 155K on the clock, and it's a Chevy. It might not be worth all the effort in terms of market value, but I don't mind.
