stock vs non-stock thoughts
since i have been a corvette member and reader of some of the discussions, i have a general question to put to all of you. as long as i have had cars, tempest, firebird, monte carlo, and now a corvette, i have always been a stock guy. correct hub caps, wheels, and the like. nothing non-stock or add ons such as flares, flames, modifications to the interior and exterior. what is the majority of the forum think? more like me, and wanting stock right down to how it rolled out of the factory; or more of a modified and individual look that takes on your very own personality?

if you read a few threads through the Gen and Tech/Perf sections it will be easy to see that most people here don't have problems with modifications
however it does depend on what type of mods you are talking about...most people here aren't going to like "flares, flames and modifications to the interior and exterior" maybe with the exception of GS fender flares when using 315s or interior mods like the sound system. Pretty much everyone here is a fan of performance mods (engine, suspension and brakes).

I've pretty much kept my recent cars bone stock, at least in the looks catagory.
But even with my '88 anna Vette I've added a few custom touches to the interior that "blend well" and can be very easily removed. The only exterior difference is the exhaust tips.
On most Vettes I really don't like the stock wheels; so would likely replace them. But flames, wings and such aren't really my cup.

Everyone has their likes. This forum runs from bone-stock to over-the-top. (see some signatures). Like any statisical plotting, the majority will fall in the middle, with some mods.
You do what you like...its your car. No matter what you decide, some people will not agree, but most will.

I like them all if not too radical looking. Some cars are kept stock just as a piece of rare or unique history. Wouldn't do any modifications to 68 L-88 when I had it. With most C-4 values bottoming out, doesn't bother me to do some major performance mods But the original drivetrain will go in corner in case stock becomes important for these cars. Sometimes fast counts too. Just MHO Ike

I'm more of a stock guy. Not that I don't like the mods, but one of the many reasons I drive Corvettes is they have a high resale value. It is my belief that most mods narrow the market for a car when it comes time to sell it and do not enhance the value. Those who prefer modifications will probably rip out what has been done and redo it to suit their own preferences. And even if the mods that have been done are inkeeping with the buyers approach, you'll never get your money back on them.
Those who like mods, more power to ya, go for it, but I'm more of a stock guy.

I like them stock myself I just think it looks better. Plus a corvette IMO is not the type of car to trick out or anything like a honda is I mean if you wanna do that kind of stuff I say buy a import.
not to say some peoples subtle mods aren't nice looking tho...

I fall into the "Sleeper" category. I like mine to look stock but accelerate, brake, and corner as well as I can afford to make it. As noted above, You paid for it. Enjoy it however it suits you

I am a stocky pretty much. I made dress up the engine compartment with some chrome covers. I have changed the exhaust and put on ZR-1 wheels, but pretty much stock.

Pretty much a stock guy here, but mainly due to economics--I'm afraid of getting sucked into the temptation of continually trying to make the car reach the "next level."
I certainly have nothing against modding a 'Vette, in fact I'm blown away by what guys like hookedup, ski_dwn_it, and corkvette (just to name a few) have accomplished. But man, I'm scared to ask how much they've spent over the years!

i like the simple mods that can be "undone" if you sell the car. i've changed the exhaust and wheels, added a performance chip (came with the car). the stereo is the next thing to go. but i'd never cut holes in anything or REALLY mess up the car, cuz i agree that it does narrow the resale market....but make it yours, just keep in mind that potential buyers may not like what you've done.

I've always been a sleeper fan since I was a kid. Stock looking inside and out, underhood, just mod the internals-at least as far as Corvettes go. Build yours the way you want it! The real value is how much enjoyment it brings you.

As for visual mods, I'm all for changing the wheels - there are many really nice looking ones out there. As for other visual changes, as long as they are minor AND can be very easily reversed (at little to no cost), then thats ok as well.
As for performance mods, load 'er up. After all, thats where the fun is at, and what driving sports & muscle cars are about.

exterior - wheels and glass tinting is really all i'm a fan of.
interior - maybe some two tone seats, aftermarket stereo system
performance - what ever you can fit under the hood!
