Well in reality, there isn't that much difference between 3.45's and 3.54's. I'd still go with the idea that they ran out of 3.45's that day and just happened to have a set of 3.54's laying around. You know they don't want to stop the LINE when they are working. I'm just glad they didn't throw a set of 3.08's in there.

not yet. I want to see if I hear back from Mike Antonick on this, and if he reads the thread.

It could take him a day or 2 to check into this at his end... if he wants to.

thanks, tho!

Just a small question, I'm a novice at this, but if I understand correctly, the higher the number (for instance 3.08 - 4.05) means it'll accelerate faster, but the lower the number the higher the top end speed?
Is there a gearing that is preferable? Is there a list with the stock gearing for each year and the different performance RPO options?
Thanks.

First of all if you fill in some of your Vette's info on your sig page it would help us answer questions to your Vette. For instance, it would help if we knew what year your Vette is and if it was an automatic or standard tranny. Now, in general, if you want a good gas mileage highway cruiser go with a lower number ratio like 3.08s for an automatic and 3.45s for a standard tranny. But if you want drag strip performance, ie fast acceleration, then maybe 3.54s for automatics and 4.09s for the standards. BTW, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the information Mr. Strickland. I would put up Vette information on my sig page if I had any lol. I don't have a Corvette yet. However, your information does help my search. Once I'm done with college and will be in better shape financially, I will be looking for a good clean 1989 or 1990 with standard 6 speed transmission or a 1995 ZR-1 if I can afford it.

That's an interesting mix of vehicle selections, there!

Why are you bypassing the LT1?

Thanks, we've discovered a 92 with the GHO 3.54s! It's on the build sheet, window sticker and stamped on the dif. We just wanted to know why it was not listed as an option in 92. We figure they ran out of 3.45s and had a few 3.54s laying around. Don't want to stop the LINE.

BTW, it's mine.

Cool. Maybe I misunderstood the question. "Any word back from Mike Antonick? And anybody else have the GHO rpo on there list?. I thought that meant an RPO decoding list.

RACE ON!!!

Well, I love the early C4 shape and for 1991 they changed the front and back end. I would want an 89 or 90 because they still had that original shape but also had the 6 speed instead of the 4+3 manual transmission.
When it comes to looks alone though, I actually like the 84/85 even better, because they don't have that third brake light yet and I love those early 16'' rims with the black centers.
As for the ZR-1... I think it all works for that car. It and it's engine are magnificent. It's one of those cars you fall in love with. If I could ever get my hands on one, I'll be a happy man.

So, it's not a deliberate bypass of the LT1 really. I just like the looks of the early C4's and the ZR-1 for it's entirety.
I haven't driven any of them, so I can't be the judge on driving and engines yet. That will have to wait until I'm ready to go shopping for one.

Right now I'm orientating and making sure what I like though, maybe you as an expert could give me your view on what you like?

You are doing the right thing in getting through college first. You have your head on straight. Your taste is respectable in the C4. I, too, love the ZR-1, but they do have their draw-backs; it's hard to find someone to work on the engine, unless you plan to do it yourself. Personally, I liked the 91-96 rear ends with the almost rectangular lights. Just as far as initial looks go, I like the look of the L98 motor as it looks like a mini LT5 (ZR-1 motor), BUT NOT THE PERFORMANCE. You can modify the LT1/4 engines to out perform the LT5 at a much lower price. There are other items that make the later C4s a little more disireable, but you'll find out all those things. Hit a bunch of shows and talk with the guys, you'll learn quickly.
