I think there are some slight errors in the meaning of codes AR9 & AQ9 in the Black Book and Cor-'Vette Specs main option tables. I've "code whipped" over 200, '87-'89's over the past year and find that AR9 only means european style, reclining seats (i.e. "base" seats) and AQ9 only means "sport" style, reclining seats. Neither tell you whether it's leather or cloth (or nagas' hide, 19R/19W ). The seat covering material/color is given by a code torward the end of the label list starting with a number like 19C for black cloth and 192 for black leather.

I, too, love the ZR-1, but they do have their draw-backs; it's hard to find someone to work on the engine, unless you plan to do it yourself. Personally, I liked the 91-96 rear ends with the almost rectangular lights. Just as far as initial looks go, I like the look of the L98 motor as it looks like a mini LT5 (ZR-1 motor), BUT NOT THE PERFORMANCE. You can modify the LT1/4 engines to out perform the LT5 at a much lower price. There are other items that make the later C4s a little more disireable, but you'll find out all those things. Hit a bunch of shows and talk with the guys, you'll learn quickly.
Also, read and reread both "Cor-Vette Specs", ISBN 0-933534-51-5 and "Corvette From the Inside", ISBN0-8376-0859-7 if you want a C4. I think they ought to be required reading for anyone owning or thinking of getting a C4.

Also, you can take the top brake light off and fit the 'vert style into the rear panel (gonna do it). I like the convex rear of the '91-'96 better than the earlier ones but wish they had kept the round (classic) lights (may do it, with round lights).

Default RPO codes

This is a large THANK YOU to "Bogus" for posting the codes. It has helped me a great deal. Just bought my 1st Corvette; 1996 LT1 Black Coupe Automatic. There are still several codes I would like to identify; M30; NF2; NG5; R7A; R7V; UY5

Also, on my RPO decal, somewhat below the group of codes is the following: BC/CC U 8555 193

My code group contains a "193" (black leather seats). Is this simply a 2nd reference to the seats, or something else entirely?

It's year dependant - the 700R4 was upto 1992; the 4L60 is the 700R4 with a different name, for 1993, and in 1994, the 4L60E - meaning "Electronic" control, versus the mechanical TV cable.

Supplimental Inflatable Restraint - the airbag. It was introduced in 1990, drivers side only, then made dual in 1994.
