Default Corsa vs. Borla

I am finally in the market for an exaust system. However, I can't seem to decide between corsa or borla. I have two big questions
How noisy is a borla catback syatem for a 96 at 2200rpms (cruising rev's)? I love the sound of this system when someone gets on it, but I am worried about how much drone is will have at cruising speeds.
On the corsa system, I have heard they are a bit better when it comes to cruising speeds, but people have said they make your car sound like a bmw when opened up.
I could really use some help on this from anyone who has first hand experience. Also should I be going with the 3" system or 2.5"? Is there a big difference between the two?
Thanks for the help guys or gals.
Joe

if you have/plan no other major mods, go with the 2.5; corsas sound great at WOT

You know about B&Bs? You might want to think about them, too. I just installed them and they sound really nice. Go to C4 Parts/Wanted and look for sticky on GP.

Also checkout the reviews on the different exhaust systems.

I hadn't considered the billy boats. How is the drone on them? That is a concern because I do drive the vehicle quite a bit and would still like to be able to hear my stero. Not that I can very well over my wheels anyway.
Do you know a good place to find reviews between the different exaust systems?

The only offensive sound I can get is when I put it in 6th below 55mph, then I get some resonance (or drone as you call it) WOT is really what I like. I have the 3" with the resonator. It sounds like you wouldn't want the X-pipe option (30% louder inside without any horsepower increase over the resonator.

Yes, just go to other on the top bar here and select review from the pull down list.

I think you should look into the b&b triflows thats what I'd get if I wanted a aftermarket exhaust syste.

Default B&B's???

I'd check in depth on this forum regarding the B&B's. Last week I talked to a guy at Scottie's Mufflers in San Bernardino, CA. I was trying to get installed prices on the various exhaust systems available. The B&B's look the best to me and I was most interested in inquiring on them. Unfortunately I was informed that the B&B's were their least favorite system and they won't even carry them. I was told that they are notorious for cracking. They also advised that even though they have a lifetime warranty, past customers were still unhappy due to the frequency of replacing. I'll be the first to admit that I have absolutely no first hand knowledge of ANY exhaust systems available. Just a precautionary word. Be sure to check with several folks that actually have some miles and time on them. I'd love to see this proved wrong because they look sooooo damn good!

This is the first time I've heard anything about them cracking. Where do they crack? I would assume there must be stress put on them to cause a crack. The welds are just beautiful. Maybe their first edition catbacks had problems, as they were a lot louder as far as resonance goes. It will surprise me if these crack anywhere, but I'll let you know if it happens as well as letting B&B know. The only thing I didn't like about them was the clamps they used. The bolts in the clamps are too soft and break before a good strong seal is made. I replaced the bolts with S/S bolts and nuts.

I installed a set of Corsa's on my buddy's 94 and I was impressed with them, too. The B&Bs are a touch louder and all the tips are functional. Sorry about hyjacking the thread. I just like the B&Bs that much.

Hey Strick, he turned me off to them right from the get-go so I really didn't ask where and why they crack. If you would like, I'll get you the phone number when I get to work tomorrow. Then maybe you could give them a call to get a better understanding than I can provide. Just let me know if you want the contact info.

No Strick,
I am happy you brought them up, I had never even considered them. I am going to do some more searching around on them.

I agree, the borlas arent too loud at cruising speeds. In fact the old mufflers (generic polished ones) I had on before were loder. BUT at Wide open throttle these babies are awsome. I love the way they look too. I have the polished intercooled ones....i might consider Magnaflows but I got a deal on the Borlas

Had Borla mufflers on my 94 when I bought it. Intolerable at highway speeds. With the top down it was just obnoxious, but with the top up it was torture. Could not talk to a passenger without yelling.

Was a tossup for me between putting some stock mufflers on and a Corsa catback. A group purchase for the Corsa pushed me that way.

Corsa is still a bit loud for a long trip. It got pretty old when I drove it cross country a few months ago. I think it's louder than when I first installed it a year ago. I've been meaning to get under it and retighten everything in case part of the noise is from things having loosened up.

(p.s. Highway speed being 80 mph with a 2.59 rear in an A4. How fast you go and your gear ratio will be a factor in how much resonance there is. Now that I live back East where speed limits are so low, maybe the Borla's wouldn't be a problem.)

Default what about...

what about using sound deadning material like b-quiet or soundguard, dynamat or something?

I havent tried this, but i have heard these things to work wonders, does anyone have any idea on how this would help with general road noise and exhaust? I have heard that besides using sound deadning materials that using a composite with it also helps a huge ammount ?

Yea, lets add weight to take away from any performance one might gain.

Had a borla, it now resides in the county landfill. Went to the Corsa setup and love the sound.
