Whats wrong with buying a 96' vette with 12k miles for 16.5k,
instead of paying 53k for a 2005?? I saved over 37 grand plus those dreaded taxes and I have a new 96' vette and I saved a boat load of money. The C4 is easier to maintain and with the C6 and its remote start and keyless entry you have to be rocket scientist if you need it repaired. To me its a no-brainer. Plus a vette is a vette!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing's wrong with it ,It's your money and you buy what you want...I have a 95 but i would also like to have a c5 and a c6...maybe some day...Also your 96 should have "keyless entry".......
And as soon as the dealer hands you the keys, how much is that C6 worth on the market??
I would need to have crazy $$ before I'd take the depreciation hit on a new car these days. Even if you don't turn a wrench, you can still afford to pay someone else to do maintenance and still be ahead with a C4 vs a C6. And performance and handling can be had too with $$ to spare.
But the main deal is style and features of the C4.
Lotsa exclamation points. It sounds like someone questioned your decision. Why? We all decide what we want to do with our money, and how much we want to hold onto for the unforeseen, right? It's a comfort level thing. Besides, since you live in BG, it really isn't an old car, just a delayed delivery.
I have the cash to buy a C6 outright, but I also have better ways to invest the money,
I agree. I love the C-6, but, even if I had the money to buy the car ten times over, I will not invest my money in something that depreciates 40%, (average new car) in the first two years. You have the money to buy the C6 because you have made wise investments in the past, so, as funny as it sounds, you have the money to buy one outright bacause you didn't buy one in the past. Also, I will never go into dept for a car. If I can't save up and buy it cash, I can't afford it and will make due with what I can afford.
I have the cash to buy a C6 outright, but I also have better ways to invest the money, I'll keep my C4, besides I don't like the body style.
Yea, I almost had myself convinced of that very same thing.... 'till those pics of the Z06 came out. Then I had my wife 'talk me down off of the ledge'...... 'till the specs of the Z06 got released.
I am praying that the Z06 will be over 85,000. Otherwise I may not be able to keep resisting.
Depriciation, yada...yada....
Modded C5 + money left over, yada..yada...... (actually this one is pretty convincing)
Better investment, yada...yada...
Don't get me wrong... I love my C4 and don't plan on selling it to get my new vette (certainly not in the current market). But I am not gonna lie to you; that little twitch in my hand starts drowning out all of the 'logic' when I read new info about the Z06.
I feel the same as you. I paid c5 price for my 95 vert from my own dad....and I could buy a c6 if I wanted but actually besides saving major $ (21k compared to about 60k) I just perfer the c4 much more.
I do like the c5 and c6 (had a 99 coupe years ago) but honetly just like the c4 better.
Well I wouldn't mind having a C6 Vert they are sharp looking, but certainly not as a replacement to my C4 Coupe. Since my 93 was my first I fully intend to keep it for good and add another later. Heck wait a few years, spend a few extra bucks and get one from Roger's with practically no miles on it. Still though I'd probably want to add an 03 AE Vert 6-spd first. Love the color style and interior on that one. I have that huge poster from NCM right over my iMac on the wall of the 03 AE Vert, so I get to look at it and dream. My 93 being my first one after all these years has a special place in my heart now. I can still remember back in 72' when I graduated and I was this close to getting a 69 coupe until my Dad found out what the insurance was going to be. After he came down from hitting the roof and said no way in hell we were paying $300 a year for insurance. LOL ah the days when $1.95 was the minimum wage. So I guess the day I drove off the dealer lot with the 93, it was until death do us part....

Keyless entry yes, but not keyless start like the C6 now has.

You made a great decision!!!!
Who could question this:
"Yes I picked up my new 1996 Vette Wed.
Its torch red, coupe, auto, and has only 12k original miles.
A doctor bought it new and barely drove it. It needs nothing.
It looks like a new 96' right off the showroom. The window sticker was still with the car showing a price of $38,145.00
I paid $16,500.00 It also has the G92 option. "
BTW That G92 option ought to make it perform like or better than a 6-speed
I believe that you buy the best car one can afford and enjoy. The C6 appears to be much nicer in terms of performance, handling, and comfort than any previous Vette and I will probably buy one some day. However a Vette should move ones soul when one buys it and that is why there are still people who prefer their C1s -C5s over the other models.
