This morning when I started my car the area of my gauges where you see the fuel mileage info kept flashing "SYS" about every 30 seconds. Does anyone know what this means?
In most cases it means a weak battery, it can also come on if you've done anything with the stereo. Usually anything related to an electric problem can make the SYS come on. I would check the battery first.

I started a thread about this a month ago. Mine turned out to be a battery. Nice warning, actually. It's better than waiting for the battery to fail.

I'd check that first. When I bought my car a week later this happened to me. I freaked!!! I went to start my car and the battery shot craps on me... changed the battery and everything was fine from there.
Just happened to me. Replaced the battery after having it checked. Had about 1000 cranking amps when it should of had 5000 That is what I was told, Changed battery and have not had any more sys flashing

Had the same thing - battery was bad. Installed new battery and message was gone....Good luck!
Thanks everyone. The day before this happened I got my car washed, and it was really hard to start pulling out of the car wash. Drove home just fine. It was the next morning that it started easily, then I got the sys light. I'll check my battery tonight. Thanks again.

If you're looking for the real reason for SYS...It means a code is stored in the CCM. If you read the CCM code it will tell you exactly why it's flashing. Generally, most CCM codes are electrical related. A weak battery can set CCM codes randomly.
