Looks like a great start for a young man to get involved in. Nicely optioned car as far I'm concerned. I had the C60 in my ZO7 and actually liked it quite well. A lot less to go wrong as far as I'm concerned. One thing I did note that I'm sure you are aware of is that tires are in its immediate future to get it road worthy. That right front looks to be cracking around the inside rib from what I can see in the picture. All in all a fun project that should be the envy of his peers once you guys work your magic on it.

I like the C60 and agree that there's less to go wrong. My 95 6spd has C60, but my 93 has the C68. There are pros and cons to both. I do prefer the C60 though.

The tires on his car are absolutely shot. They are all dry rotten and worn out. He is currently looking for a different set of wheels. He wants A-Molds so we're keeping our eye out for a set. I like the original wheels but two center caps are missing and they all need refinished.

A little update on the car. I bought the car from my son, as he was not in a position to fix the car at this time in his life. The car was sitting and not being touched and his interests were elsewhere for the time being. I decided to buy it, put some money in his pocket and peck away at fixing the car and making it operational. The first big this is getting the engine to run right amd not stall every time the transmission is put into drive or reverse.

I started with the ignition system, as I knew the L98 was pronve to moisture in the cap. I found the rotor was rusting and clear evidence of water intrusion. I replaced the cap and rotor, inspected the coil, which I think I will replace, and readjusted the TPS to .54V. Runs well cold but starts running poorly when warm. Perhaps the coil is dropping out when warm. I'll put a timing light on it and see if spark drops at any point when it starts running poorly. I have more work to do and more reading to do on the injection system. Better but not great. It does drive without hesitation once underway. Despite only having first and second gear, it accelerates well and without issues.

Yesterday, I removed the instrument cluster and got it apart and did some testing and cleaning. What once was totally inoporative is now mostly functional. One bad lcd panel, but the cluster is working, so I'll take it! I also installed a new to me shifter console plastic. Had to transfer my shift boot and cigarette lighter, but no big deal. Now I have a working shift indicator and the center looks cleaner. Now for the other plastics.

Out with the cluster:

Getting it opened up:

Odd burning on the breadboard where the bulbs are. Makes me think the wattage is too high.

Back together after some cleaning and I now have a mostly working cluster, despite one bad lcd panel, which I could see what not good prior to removel:

So he got himself a girlfriend? Heh heh I did that to my Dad, and then came back. They got their head in the clouds!

You hit the nail on the head! She's a great girl and my wife and I like her a lot. I think she's keeping him very distracted. But when I was his age, I was the same way. He talks to me about the car every time he sees it's condition improving and tells me how much he regrets selling the car. I remind him that the car is going nowhere and is not for sale to anyone at any time. I told him thay when he is established in life and has a house with a garage and can take good care of the car, I will gift it to him. And I told him that he is welcome to help me any time on the car, just as we originally planned. Thus far he hasn't helped and I am not upset with him. His focus is on his girlfriend and on buying a 97 F-250 from my father in law. I made a coiled front brake line for the truck a couple weeks ago and he went out and installed it and bled the brakes and asked for no help. He is competent at working on cars and as such, I hired him as an apprentice technician at the Toyota/VW dealership that I manage. He's making strides and forward progress and I'm happy with that. As for the car, I have ordered a few parts and will continue to peck away at the car little by little.
