Would you mind posting the part number from the tag. It should begin with 1052 000 0 and then 2 numbers after the last zero.
A close photo of the tag would be great if you can.
Thanks.

That’s correct. The ZR1 has a different input shaft as I understand. The L98 and LT1 are interchangeable. This one is in great shape I can assure you.

FYI, you'd have to get an '89-'92(?) T/O bearing. The black tag uses a larger input shaft collar. The '96 vette (LT4/blue tag) T/O bearing won't work.
Same clutch and input shaft though.

So basically, if I'm in the market for a replacement ZF6 for my LT4, I should be looking for a blue tag ZF? Thanks guys - and this forum is the best!

The black tag is slightly stronger than the blue tag. Blue tag as slightly steeper angles on the gear to make it quieter but; the angle induces a thrust, thus reducing the load capacity of the trans.
If you're just looking for ease of replacement, a blue tag out of a '93-'96 NON zr1 is your best bet.

There's a good bit of confusion and misinformation supplied here. That 084 transmission was done in USA and is intended for a '94 with a lift ring. Only 'True Blue Tag' are '95 and '96 with 'CRASH THRU' for reverse. Since it's used a person needs to actually measure the guide tube diameter to confirm and then use the appropriate release bearing. If the guide tube is the original it would work for a replacement for the '96.
It's configured for an L98, Lt1/LT4 with the appropriate release bearing.
It's a 540Nm build - OP says it was removed from a '91 so either a later release bearing was used OR a guide tube was swapped from the earlier.
OP - measure the guide tube diameter and confirm if you'd like which release bearing would be required for an install.

Guide tube- I have not heard that term before, but if you let me know exactly what part of the tranny you are referring to I would be happy to measure the diameter of it. Would it be the smooth end of the input shaft going into the case? Or the smooth end at the opposite end nearest the engine block/crank?
Thanks for your help!!
