Stock oil pump is more than good enough according to John Lingenfelter. Who could argue with him?

I am sure the pump does, the pickup might not. However it seems the consensus of the forum, that due to the return rate of oil that some people running even 7qt pans have sucked air with HV pumps. Thus, you should try and run if anything, a HP pump. But if you run the HV, you really shouldn't be using a stock pan anyway.

Canton makes the right pan and pump and pick up.
The stock pick up is to long and the canton pan has scrapers and baffels ,trapdoor all that junk.Next is the crank balancer.
Been there done all that.

Yeah HP, as in High Pressure. Normal is just fine too. My engine guy who builds circle track cars says the most he ever does is use a BB pump. Chevy's have pretty dang good oiling systems.

The new "OP"=oil pump..drive rod. Yes definitly, the metal retainer is a keeper, you can also get one from ARP. They are definitly out there on the market.

So the High volume oil pump touches the pan?
Hmm a bigger pan could be mandatory. Should be with a HV pump anyway.

What did you take back to the vendor?
