Does anyone know what it would sound like if the mufflers were removed and replaced with some pipes. Too loud? Not enough back pressure? Dont have 1100 dollars to spend on a cat back but I want a beefy sound. I know Mustangs run straight pipes all the time but ive never seen it on the vette. Just wondering why. Thanks
unless you like drowning loud *** resonance/race car like sound from start to finish then thats the key I think they sell what your talking about muffler eliminators

Yes..and they sound great! they are not near as loud as you think they would be. I took off my flowmasters to go with muffler elims. I have 0 regrets about it....But, you will lose some low end torque...

There are a few more reasonably priced kits for the LT1's you don't have to pay 1100 for a new kit. E-mail me for more info.

I have muffler elims and they have a little resonance but when I went to LTs and muffler elims the resonace was almost eliminated! and its very very throtty! also i dont have cats.
for a while the exhaust wasnt hooked up and it was like a drag racer made people jump when i drove by idling! but i just got it all hooked up yesterday not lound enough and thats with the LTs and muffler elims
I hope itll sound alot deeper when I get the hot cam in though.
the resonance was only at like 1200 rpm to 1500 rpm
Hi I'm a new bee,
I got a 88 TPI vette, I gutted the center cat converter then removed my mufflers and replaced with 2 1/4 exhaust tubing. It sounds bad A$$. I've also reprogrammed the chip with Tuner Cat, It really runs great. i don't have 1/4 mile times yet. anybody know what a stock 88 runs 1/4 miles? Soon i'll be porting out the upper pleuim gasket matching, accel runners, throttle body foil. Also has anyone done this porting job? if so does it help much? also what kind of ECM programming will it require.
thanks

How did you notice the loss of low end torque? Butt-o-meter? ET? Is it really noticeable? Do you think a set of motor cycle baffles would retain enough back pressure? I have a set of Ecklers elims I haven't put on yet and been thinking about flowmaster force IIs.
My 94 LT1 is a driver and I don't race. But, I don't want a loss of power. Just how loud would they be with my otherwise stock exhaust? I want a nice deep growl/rumble but not loud enough to PO neighbors, police and myself - got some old ears already damaged by 26 years in Uncle Sam's service.
I didn't notice any loss anywhere, so if there was loss, wasn't enough for the butt-o-meter. Again, with 100% stock exhaust with elims, I've only go the "at idle" video (same as above)...Elims at idle
Leave the cats and the resonator in place and the car will sound great!! Any good muffler shop should be able to bend up a set of straight pipes and even re-use your muffler tips for around $50-75.
