Default zz4 383?

i have a zz4 engine needs a rebuild and was thinkin about making it a stroker. how hard is it to put a tpi or ltx setup on that engine even if i didnt make it a stroker? not sure if i would put it in the vette but it would be tempting.

The ZZ383 uses fastburn aluminum heads, so you will need the Scoggins-Dicky intake manifold to fit the TPI. Also your current smog equipment won't match up because of these heads either, but I think Scoggins Dicky makes some kind of adapters. But it should be a heck of an engine once installed and working. Let us know the trials and tribulations and...ahem...the 1/4 performance.

If it is the ZZ4 motor then it is completely compatible. It even uses the same heads (113's). Geosfun was talking about the ZZ383 which is not the ZZ4. If you stroke it then that is fine but as far as the TPI goes it is fully compatible.

Mean8t is right. I misread your original question. I was thinking you were considering the ZZ383. Your ZZ4 is a prime candidate to go 383.

I would replace the cam. A LPE 219 grind or the XE276HR-12, either with 1.6 rr's with some port work to the heads, and you should have a mean mother@#$*er.

You can buy 383 rotating assemblys from any parts house. Function determines price. You can pay ~800 for a cast assembly, or up to ~1800 for a completely forged assembly. I prefer a forged crank and pistons. The 219 cam from lingenfelter is a great cam, but lingenfelter thinks they are made of gold, lol. Find a cam from comp or any other company with the same or close specifications and you'll be good to go. Machine work on the block should run you ~1000 with a blueprint and balance. It will be worth it in the end.

Oh and the stock 350 cast cranks makes a great doorstop or can be sold for scrap. At the machine shop I worked at, we'd just leave them out for the scrap metal guys, lol.
